Big news 🎬 The 17th edition of the Durban FilmMart has been rescheduled to 9 – 12 October 2026. While this shift comes amid ongoing funding challenges, the mission remains the same - to connect, support and grow African film. This year’s theme, Shifting Worlds: Turning Towards Ourselves, invites bold conversations around new funding models, stronger partnerships, and reimagining the future of African cinema. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cynthia Shange, a true icon of South African film, television, and cultural heritage, and a 2024 Simon Sabela Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Her remarkable contribution to the arts has left an indelible mark on KwaZulu-Natal and the nation at large. She will be remembered for her grace, talent, and the powerful legacy she leaves behind. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, loved ones, and the entire creative industry during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.

The KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority is deeply saddened by the passing of Kumaran Naidu. A visionary storyteller and passionate advocate for local cinema, Naidu played a pivotal role in bringing authentic South African narratives to life. His work not only showcased the richness of Durban’s stories but also helped shape and inspire the growth of the film industry across the province and beyond. We honour his legacy, his dedication to nurturing emerging talent, and his commitment to telling stories that matter.
