Traditional art isnāt only from the past. Itās being made right now.
Threads of Belonging brings together three women working in HMong paj ntaub, Ilocano kusikus, and Palestinian tatreez ā honoring the legacies of immigrant communities through the textile traditions they carried here.
If you joined us at last weekās fundraiser, you felt it: the bonds this project has built, between artists and between everyone who showed up to our free workshops and open studios.
Sacramento is in a spirit of giving today ā and weāre asking you to help us reach our $10,000 goal. Every dollar supports the artistsā time, installation and permitting, and the two years this work will live at Valley HiāNorth Laguna Library.

Weāre still glowing āØ
Last Thursday, folks showed up ā and we felt every bit of it. Our Meet the Artist event brought in $3,000 in community support, and more than that, it gave us the chance to share our heart and hustle with the people who make this mural matter.
To everyone who came out, donated, cheered us on from a distance ā thank you. This is what culture through cloth looks like in real life š§”

These pieces were made by you ā our community! Over two workshops, something beautiful happened. Participants came together ā and left with a piece of living cultural heritage in their hands.
One workshop left: Palestinian Tatreez, April 11. We want to know ā should we keep going? More workshops, more traditions, more community?
Drop a š§µ in the comments if yes.
TOB Workshop #2 was something special š§¶āØ
Ā
We had the honor of learning from, #District8 native, Ilokana cultural worker and weaver, Jamie Pesquiza Cardenas, @filmandfiber who guided us through the art of weaving on a frame loom. Together, we spent time sharing stories, building connection, and learning about the rich history behind the Ilokana weaving tradition known as Inabel.
Ā
Thereās something powerful about slowing down, working with your hands, and carrying forward traditions rooted in culture and care.
