The Sick Rose is a little string piece I composed for fun a couple of months ago. In its simplicity it encloses a lot of myself and putting on paper all these notes has been a true relief. Thanks to the amazing @_dario_vero_ and @federicosolazzomusic we managed to record it at Ennio Morricone's @forum_studios in Rome during a shared session with the Kiev Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Recording engineer: Fabio Patrignani Rec engineer assistant: Davide Dell’Amore Orchestra contractor: David Barsotti Mixed and mastered by @davide_ruffini at Splinter Studios (Utrecht) "O Rose thou art sick. The invisible worm, That flies in the night In the howling storm: Has found out thy bed Of crimson joy: And his dark secret love Does thy life destroy." William Blake The Rose is full of love, and is fresh. It has been at the same place its whole life and has no seen the bitter realities of the world. In contrast, the Worm is selfish and filled with dark love. It has been through harsh storms and has now found the soft petals of the Rose to take cover in. As the Worm is experienced and knows the ways of the world, so it behaves with same cruelty with the Rose, even though it has love for it. The Rose, unaware of the Worm’s intentions, keeps on providing for the Worm and falls sick. This illness will eventually lead to its destruction. Just as the softhearted people loose in the end and the cruel always get their ways in this society. #thesickrose #forumstudios

This is the most ambitious project of my life. Today, Antonio Carlos Jobim’s anniversary and National Bossa Nova Day, feels like the perfect moment to share something deeply personal: my new piano album, Eu Lírico, will be released in 2025 - nine years after my first album, Upside Down. Over nearly a decade, life has unfolded in unexpected ways, bringing countless experiences, emotions, and reflections. The abundance of music that blossomed during these years has led to this being Volume 1 of what’s to come. Eu Lírico Vol. 1 distills these experiences into ten pieces, each refined through careful revisions and many many late nights. It’s been both a challenge and a joy to transform simple musical ideas into something meaningful. I’ve always believed that “less is more,” and this pop piano album, with its simple harmonies and focus on melody (my Eu Lírico), embodies that philosophy. Why announcing it on National Bossa Nova Day? Because Eu Lírico carries Brazil within it - but in a subtle way. Beneath the surface, you’ll find Brazilian rhythms, citations, and nods that pay homage to my influences. Yet, at its core, it presents differently, inviting listeners to discover these elements. I look forward to sharing more as the release date approaches.

🐾🦖 I remember spending entire afternoons as a kid at my grandpa’s house watching Kommissar Rex. That’s why I was so happy when @tobiasalexanderratka asked me to orchestrate the new season. Kommissar Rex is back on air starting this Monday, featuring a beautiful score recorded with the @rso.wien Huge thanks to Tobias, @raphael.fimm , and my buddy @gianmarco_contini for all the help. Also, Tobias might just be one of the greatest at coming up with cue titles 🫶

Tom Jobim would have turned 99 today. I often think about how amazing it must have been to be in Rio during his time… Looking forward to properly celebrating his centenary next year @jobimoficial

This period has been so busy that I almost forgot I scored a movie! @shalz.usk was released in Mongolia last month, and apparently it’s doing really well! We recorded the soundtrack earlier this year, featuring the double bass as the main voice of the score. Huge thanks to @ashleyjohnlong , you know all the contemporary and even the future techniques of this underrated instrument. Thanks also to director @amra.mongol and producer @uranamen for their trust. As usual, I couldn’t have done any of this without the help and work of @federicosolazzomusic Well done to the entire music team @buzge , @gianmarco_contini , @fieldgatestudio , @eastconnectionmusicrec and the whole Budapest crew. If you’re anywhere near Mongolia…don’t miss the film 😄

Entanglement is one of the pieces I feel most deeply connected to and it closes the album Eu Lírico. It actually began years ago as a sketch for a dance piece, and when I started working on this album it felt right to return to it, to develop it and turn it into the “grand finale” of this journey of reconnection that Eu Lírico represents. The term entanglement comes from quantum physics: it describes how two particles, once connected, remain linked even when they’re far apart. Here, it celebrates the invisible ties that bind us forever to the people we’ve loved, the places we’ve lived, the experiences that have shaped us, who we were, who we are, and who we’ll become. I chose the Dois Irmãos peaks in Rio as the visual symbol of this piece. From Ipanema, they look like a single mountain, but they’re actually two distinct summits, standing side by side. I thought it was the perfect way to describe visually this concept! Musically, it’s inspired by the batucada, a samba rhythm, reimagined through classical instruments. Many rhythmic layers overlap forming one unified pulse. Thanks for listening 💙 @azulmusic
