Inspired by the trend doing the rounds, here’s what we were up to in 2016.
Born Amongst the Hills, in the Lake District, was one of our very first projects as Field Day and one that we still return to now. Our new clients still mention it, we met @dean.hearne who we still love working with now and we learned lots of big lessons.
A passing comment in an early meeting went on to be a guiding light. “I want it to feel as though it’s always been there.” It's a line that's stayed with us to this day. We return to it because it still holds up and feels right a decade later. Proof (if we still need it) that timeless design is the best kind 💫
@fielddaystudio created a home shaped by intention for their Putney project. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts character of the house, the space balances beauty, originality and artisanal detail with a warm, modern feel.
On the floor, our Wexford Limestone Cobble in a tumbled finish brings texture and depth. An extremely fine, hard limestone, defined by its inky, blue black tones.
A few moments from projects quietly gathering pace.
1. A staircase that has held centuries of footsteps, now ready for another chapter (Ireland).
2. A dining room waiting for transformation to host long evenings with friends and family (Ireland).
3. Stone cut and laid on an island about to become part of the daily hum of family life (Dulwich).
4. Ground broken and foundations being laid for a pool house by the sea (Brighton).
5. A lovely client standing where his kitchen will soon be (Putney).
6. New volume, new light, and a hint of what’s to come (Putney).
These are the kinds of briefs we’re eternally grateful for. Thoughtful, layered, full of trust. All very different, all moving into the exciting middle bit where ideas meet reality.
2026 is already taking shape to be a good one - all with people we genuinely love working alongside.
More to come 💫

✨ In this Clapton kitchen, design is shaped by story.
Our clients were drawn to the rustic ease of freestanding furniture, the patina of vintage pieces and the quiet charm of European country kitchens. But more than a style, they imagined a stage for family life: a room where their children, still small, would grow up around the table. A table where everyday dinners, big conversations and milestone moments would all take place.
Terracotta tiles bring warmth underfoot, open shelves display much-loved ceramics, and bespoke joinery anchors the space with quiet practicality. The result is a kitchen with its own personality - timeless, soulful, and made to hold a family’s unfolding story.
✨More from our Clapton project - today we’re in the pantry, a small but mighty corner of this family home that celebrates those everyday rituals.
This home was all about designing with intention; creating spaces that brim with character and colour but feel as if they’ve always been there.
Cheerful checks meet buttery bespoke joinery in a room that turns the simplest task into something quietly joyful.

Introducing “Forever is composed of nows” our Clapton project for a lovely family of four and their forever home.
This home is a space that celebrates joy in the everyday - courageous, colourful, and layered with details that tell the family’s story both now and into the future.
Here in the playroom, we're borrowing light from two adjoining rooms and going cosy and energising on the walls with 'Long Room' from @paintandpaperlibrary .
More of our "always been there" joinery to hide away pushchairs and train sets to the left of the fireplace, and to the right, a set of walnut shelves inspired by the clients love of mid-century pieces, to store and display their much loved book collection.
It's always a joy to specify tiles from the wonderful @sarah_balineum . In this room we're using the Mottled Selection for it's rich, 70's adjacent palette and playful texture.
As always, photographed by the dream team @dean.hearne & @lobsterandswan
A garden gathering…
From the beginning, our clients spoke about creating a space that felt welcoming and easy. A place to gather, to unwind, and to host the evenings that turn into late nights without anyone noticing.
We anchored the design around the idea of a garden gathering. A space that feels relaxed but a little elevated, inviting but full of atmosphere.
At the centre, a bespoke granite table. The kind of table made for candlelit dinners, conversation, and long evenings that run over.
Time was the true luxury.
This home was imagined as a place to pause. A setting for slow mornings, unhurried meals, and the kind of connection that busy lives rarely allow.
Golden hour became our guiding idea - that fleeting moment each day when everything feels still and a little more golden.
We designed with that softness in mind: brass details that catch the last of the light, clay plaster walls that hold its warmth, and textures that respond as the sun moves across the space.
A home shaped by light but built for memory.
A Life Less Ordinary is a story of individuality, an expression of our client’s desire to live on their own terms. The space had to feel entirely personal and speak to our client’s electic style. We achieved this by relying on feeling - looking at what our client had a strong emotional connection to: natural light, cosiness, warmth, colour. While each room has its own identity, the combined effect was cohesion and connection.
Over the years, many of our clients have asked us to design them a library. This is the kind of space we love creating: a library is the heart of a home, a place where meaningful stories are collected, somewhere for a moment of calm. To achieve the perfect library space, we use custom joinery that compliments the architectural framework of the building, while balancing books with collected personal items that texture shelves or create pockets of shadow.

Some weeks ago, we posted about entering our ‘Wintering’ weeks here at Field Day, inspired by the book written by Katherine May. After embracing the retreat, we’re out the other side: it’s almost June and life is rapid and shifting. We feel in bloom, enjoying the growth that’s happening, carefully pruning some things to let others succeed. In these bright months, we also look to the light for inspiration – our gardens are blossoming and our windows are wide open.
Enjoy this summer time by letting yourself celebrate the good things. We’re calling this ‘Summering,’ though we’re pretty sure that’s already a thing.🍀
