spirit paths 03 - Gregory Nunn “A mix about my fascination for combination of sound, giving new life to old samples, weird washes of sonic structures that fill me and the room with interesting and inspiring sounds and textures that keep me tranced into wanting more. These are recent favorite songs and some of my top favorite artists.” - Gregory Nunn For the third edition of my mix series spirit paths, I am truly honoured to share what could very likely be one of my favourite mixes ever, from an artist who quickly became my greatest obsession of the last year: the brilliant and incomparable Gregory Nunn. Gregory runs the incredible label Language Instinct, and is also behind countless projects. From the painfully nostalgic captured tape memories of Field Designer, to the blown out dub electronics of Yemen Civil Servant, to the blistering soft-noise of Summer Film and Pure Silhouette, I’ve spent countless hours digging through Gregory’s vast catalog and have yet to come across a single album that didn’t blow me away on some level. Gregory’s mix for spirit paths unfolds like a slow dance through abandoned, mouldering spaces. Disintegrating tape loops swirl upwards like motes of dust in an empty room, foggy drones and drifting piano notes briefly accentuated by the momentary clarity of clicks and cuts appearing like shafts of light piercing through stained glass. Like his own recordings, everything here feels deeply intentional, infused with memory and meaning. A truly transcendent mix that feels like a glimpse into a world that sits just beyond the veil of our own; a place of uncompromising mysteries and unspeakable beauty. There’s a new album out from Berlin resident Shō called Radio Silence on language instinct Beautiful noise, weird sounds, distorted voices, glitches, and morse code from scanned radio waves turned into a dense texture dream🛌 @_saaankt

I uploaded a new little album today on language instinct called Shaky Acoustics. I’ve still been obsessed with this process I’ve been doing since my last album Float. Cutting up, looping, and mangling samples from old vinyl, VERY old jazz and country reel to reel tapes from the 1920s-80s, and stuff from the radio and patching it all together in the most pleasing ways to my ears that I possibly can. 9 tracks mastered by @driftingthrough.life

Releasing this album today called Float on Language Instinct. I spent months cutting up and experimenting with sound patchwork, fitting together collected junk of radio and tape samples into big messes of sound collage ambient with lots of dense chunks of slowed and mangled song samples, Instruments, noise, and open space. Enjoy turning it up and feeling everything at max volume. Mastered by Mitchell Meyer @driftingthrough.life

Another sound installation just for me, using the same stands I welded for the first one and extended them about 13 feet up. I would have 6 speakers but one is not with me!!!!!!!!! 4 speakers facing in different directions with left and right channels on each side instead of strictly left and right. Setting this somewhere public or in the woods is goals. These are midrange speakers so far away they sound light and airy but up close very big and warm
