Find your way to a quiet corner of the Catskills this Spring, where the pace slows, the noise falls away, and music carries the experience. Over three days, The Clearing unfolds through sound, movement, and shared time. Live music moves through the space from morning into night—alongside performances, open jams, guided workshops, and moments to simply sit, listen, and take it in. Days stretch between walks in nature, time by the pond, sauna sessions, bonfires, and long meals under the night sky. There is space for stillness, and space for release. This is a space built on presence, community, and cultural exchange—where people come together not just to attend, but to be part of what’s happening. All meals, beverages, workshops, sauna sessions, and performances are included. The Clearing is hosted by Barzakh Café and Salon on Kingston. In an evening boasting select folkloric songs from the Abya Yala territories, and original songs from Linda Paúla Marcos’ upcoming debut album, Humané. Marcos fuses genres from her Afro / Andean Peruvian roots and beyond, which speak to the current collapse of our social, political and environmental climates, as well as, of course, love. This ‘Clearing’ event, we will explore the central theme: what it means to be a « Guardian » and « steward » of our own mind. There is a part of us, humans, that perceives the world as « resources » that we must posses, consume, subject to our will, make it a reflection of us. It has not always been like that. Ancient cultures saw man’s intelligence, not as a basis for superiority and entitlement but as a carrier of a duty for care and responsibility. We are not only guests here, but we are beings capable of envisioning a future. This weekend, we will be surrounded by bustling nature: trees, flowers, moss, bees, frogs, deer, water, rocks, rabbits, insects, snakes, turtles, birds - lets meet them. Next Saturday May 2nd / 8pm @barzakh.cafe Humané is the non-gender binary word meaning “humane” in spanish. This word urges reflection on and action toward our responsibility to embody the humane, especially during these destructive times in which most of us contribute to and benefit from mass inhumane practices. How do we individually and collectively counter this? Humané is also the title of my first album comprised of original songs which speak to land reverence and lamentation, hope, strength, love and liberation.
