We are so excited and proud to announce we have been awarded the Merito String Quartet Award! Awarded once every four years, the prize includes €60.000, a commission, and a prize ceremony as well as multiple performances at the gorgeous Konzerthaus in Vienna.

Being unanimously selected by a jury consisting of Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartett), Irvine Arditti (Arditti Quartet), Mathieu Herzog (Quatuor Ébène), Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet), and Irene Schwalb (German Music Council) is such an honour and we could not be more excited.
We are counting down to the prize ceremony, which will take place at the Konzerthaus in Vienna in attendance of the jury, the organisation, distinguished guests, some of our most valued mentors and beloved friends and family members.
Thank you so very much to the entire Merito team, who have already been incredibly kind, supportive and a pleasure to start to get to know!

☀️Summer Festival 2026☀️
Join us for the final two concerts in the festival, featuring @fibonacciquartet 🎻🎶
Winners of the First Prize and the Audience Prize at the prestigious international competition, Premio Paolo Borciani (2024), in the same year the Fibonacci Quartet was selected to join the Young Classical Artists Trust roster. They currently hold residencies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as Quartet-in-Residence and are Grand Résident ensemble at ProQuartet in Paris for the 2025–2027 seasons.
⏰ 6pm on May 16
🎶 Beethoven, Bartok, Schumann
📍 Church of Our Lady St Mary, South Creake NR21 9LXU, United Kingdom
🎟️ £25
Following one of Haydn’s most popular quartets, Czech violinist Kryštof Kohout and the other members of the Fibonacci Quartet will play their own arrangements of Moravian Folk Songs as a preface to Janáček’s second string quartet “Intimate Letters.” This remarkable work was inspired by Janáček’s long and desperately frustrating platonic friendship with Kamila Stösslová, a married woman 38 years his junior, and the 700 letters they exchanged. In the second half of the concert the Fibonacci Quartet will be joined by @leviandreassen , double bass, for a performance of Dvořák’s delightful, richly textured and sonorous String Quintet No.2.
⏰ 3.30pm on May 17
🎶 Haydn, Moravian Folk Music, Janacek, Dvorak
📍 Church of Our Lady St Mary, South Creake NR21 9LXU, United Kingdom
🎟️ £30
🎻 Ve valtickém barokním divadle vystoupí 7. června @fibonacciquartet , jeden z nejvýraznějších smyčcových souborů nastupující generace. Do Valtic přivezou program Dopisy a krajiny inspirovaný Janáčkem i Bartókovou láskou k hudbě různých kultur a krajin.

May is off to an immediate flying start! We had a wonderful concert in Leamington Spa yesterday opening the festival there, and are currently on our way to Belgium! Join us in any of these wonderful places this month ❤️
We have been heartbroken since receiving the devastating news that Günter Pichler tragically passed away in a car accident.
Günter was many things. A legendary character - loved, feared and revered in equal measure. He was known to be famously difficult, exacting and extremely demanding, but beloved by those who weathered this.
And so he was. Günter inspired us, tormented us, guided us, believed in us more than any other, frustrated us, laughed with us, pushed us, encouraged us, vexed us, sang our praise, loved us and put as many hurdles in our way as he helped us overcome. Despite this, because of this, alongside this, he was the most influential person and pivotal presence in our existence as a quartet. He was our biggest teacher and mentor. He believed in us before anyone else did. It is impossible to describe how much we learned from him and what he meant to us.
In many different ways and from many different perspectives, he changed us and continues to be so present in our daily lives, rehearsals, performances and conversations.
We reminisce on his passion, his spirit, his charm, his musicianship, his wit, his incredible humour, his mischief, his unparalleled legacy and all the fun we had. At the same time, we laugh at the many memories of his fiery temper and the legendary quotes and situations it often produced.
While 85 is a beautiful age, this was such an abrupt and unexpected departure and it is hard to rhyme this in our minds with the Günter we saw just last week - dancing, singing, joking, laughing, full of life.
We feel incredibly grateful we got to share such special and treasured last moments with him when he attended our performance at the Konzerthaus in Vienna on April 13th, which was the most joyous occasion. We were so proud to receive his enjoyment and his pride as a musician. We were so happy to joke around with him and catch up as a person and a dear friend.
We can only hope to continue to make him proud and to do right by the enormous legacy he leaves behind.
Günter was a giant, and we feel so lucky to have known him and shared such a special relationship with him.
Rest in peace Maestro, we love you dearly.
We couldn’t be more excited for our Munich debut tonight, in the magnificent Prinzregententheater! We can’t wait to discover this legendary historic hall and play some of our favourite string quartets 🧸
#throwback to an incredible evening at @wienerkonzerthaus 🤩
The fantastic @fibonacciquartet , winner of the Merito String Quartet Award 2026, gave an unforgettable concert, filled with enthusiasm, authentic passion for music at the highest level and joy.
They delighted the audience with some classical standard pieces, like Haydn and Janáček, together with their own astonishing arrangements of Gershwin and Moravian folk songs.
We’re happy to support the ensemble for the next 4 years and we wish them all the best for their future career!

FIBONACCI QUARTET
Včerejší koncert patřil výjimečnému setkání s komorní hudbou v její nejintenzivnější podobě – v podání Fibonacci Quartetu @fibonacciquartet , jednoho z nejvýraznějších mladých kvartet současnosti. 😊
Večer otevřel Smyčcový kvartet č. 5 Bély Bartóka – dílo, které je fascinující nejen svou strukturou, ale především syrovou energií a rytmickou neklidností. Kvarteto vystavělo celek s obdivuhodnou přesností i vnitřním napětím: od téměř mystického Adagia molto až po strhující „bulharské“ scherzo, kde vynikla jejich rytmická souhra a technická jistota. Finále pak působilo jako eruptivní vyvrcholení – naléhavé, neklidné a naprosto strhující.
Po přestávce zazněl Smyčcový kvartet A dur, op. 41 č. 3 Roberta Schumanna, který přinesl zcela odlišný svět – lyrický, zpěvný a hluboce romantický. Fibonacci Quartet zde ukázal svou schopnost pracovat s barvou a frází: od jemné expresivity úvodní věty přes dramatické kontrasty druhé až po křehkou krásu Adagia. Závěrečné rondo pak vyznělo s lehkostí a radostí, která přirozeně uzavřela celý večer. 😊

We look back so fondly on the String Quartet Biennale in Paris! We had the privilege of performing twice, one concert in the Philharmonie the Paris and one in the Cité de la Musique, and both experiences were just wonderful! ❤️
There is something so special about the being surrounded by not only amazingly enthusiastic audiences, but also so many incredible quartets! It doesn’t often happen that we’re all in the same place at the same time, and when it does the atmosphere is electric 🧸
We were so grateful to be a part of it!
