While updating my website I realised I had never posted any work from the iconic run sequence I worked on with Robert Valley for Love Death & Robots season 2.
I cut together a few of the run cycles and work in progress shots which Rob and I worked on. The layout process was quite extensive - it was awesome to get to work with someone talented as Rob on a shot like this.
The slow motion shot was actually animated in slow-motion. A lot of frames! 😄

Another MTS shot from the lovely people at Rezonate. It's a dream sequence section that may or may not have made it into the final film.
Again there were incredible layout artists providing the posing and light direction for these scenes, it was a pleasure to work with the drawings.

More work from the Megan Thee Stallion job. Gorgeous layouts provided by other very talented artists saved me from the fact that they are not my strong point.
I really love the second shot of her sitting down. I know it's a really basic action. But I just really like it.

A gorgeous job for Facebook I never managed to get around to posting from only last year (!) - by the wonderful guys @soja.animation . This shot shows the main character Tulsi as she visits her family's weaving studio. You can swipe for the line and colour versions.
Soja were also responsible for the incredible 2D animation in some of the Ms Marvel sequences, amongst other things.
The creative leads were Sofie Edvardsson and Jakob Nyström, and it was produced by Simon Österhof.
The bright colours and comp for this whole project make it look so lovely 👌

My one and only shot of Gavin Flyday in Peter and the Wolf (not what the fly is called, it's just voiced by Gavin Friday (who narrates the film). The fly is called... The Fly).
Honestly, so much fun to animate. The flashing purple colour you can see on the rough drawings are shadow keys, which are rough light passes which are then honed properly by very skilled assistant animators.

Peter's Grandfather gives him a hard time. Swipe for the final edit as well as an extra shot I animated in the sequence, but can't seem to find the roughs for.
You might notice the voice edit is different in the final version, they were doing a re-record as I was working on the scene. Gavin Friday has stuck with the original beats so it works just fine.

More Peter and the Wolf! From the lovely people @blink_ink and @blinkindustries . I loved this shot. Peter sees his Grandfather approaching and is guiltily trying to hide the toy wolf he has made.
I spent a full morning in my pyjamas acting this one out (swipe to see the final comp, followed by me being a lunatic).
It's not that often that I film myself for reference, but for this one he's picking up the toy wolf while carrying the bicycle-catapult, so the reference was really helpful for trying to figure out how a young boy would do that naturally.
When I was in the studio I would sneak off to the toilets at blink to film myself if I was finding a movement tricky (also an odd thing to do). 90% of the time it would be because I couldn't draw hands. 🤲🏼
I also think this is one of the few shots where i got his face (almost) right.

I was an animator on Peter and the Wolf back in 2022 - which feels like a very long time ago.
It's a short, animated retelling of the Peter and The Wolf tale based on the illustrated children's book by Bono, with music and narration by Gavin Friday, and was made by the lovely people at @blink_ink and @blinkindustries . It was directed by Elliot Dear and Stephen McNally and produced by the wonderful Adriana Piasek-Wanski (who is a real animators producer).
It's a really gorgeous piece of work - the backgrounds are shot in miniature, with 2d animation overlayed, in atmospheric black and white.
I was in the London studio for half of the production before moving to Shrewsbury at the time, so I don't have a lot of my finished shots - a lot of them are still in their rough iterations. But here is a short rough sequence featuring the home-made bicycle-handlebar-slingshot (which was a headache of an object to draw, more of which to come!)
