Day 2 is off to a mega start! After stopping at a lookout point, we spotted this Waterbuck bull down in the valley.
Needing to shorten the distance, the team walked down the valley attempting to shorten the gap, when he disappeared. These spekboom thickets are no joke and animals can disappear in an instant.
But they also reappear! Which is exactly what this bull did.
Jon attempted a long shot of 460 yards without luck.
The Waterbuck had moved up the mountain, and the team decided to reposition to where they could see he was standing. As they started their stalk in, they bumped him at 40 yards.
With Jon on the sticks, a well placed shot took the Bull down at 80 yards. What a way to start the day, and with plenty of daylight still ahead of us, who knows what the rest of the day will bring....

What an incredible start to day 1. Within hours of arriving on the Estate, Brad had the first animal down - a majestic Eastern Cape Kudu. This bull's ears were absolutely shredded from age and fighting, but he was still chasing 12 cows when the team spotted him. What a start to their safari!

A very warm welcome to Brad and Jon all the way from Minnesota today. With an action packed week ahead of us, it was a quick lunch, followed by a trip to the shooting range to set in rifles before heading out into the veld. Buffalo hunting in the Albany thickets is not for the faint hearted. More often than not, the herds and bulls prefer the denser thickets to the open plains and this hunt was no exception.
The photo of where this bull was recovered from honestly does not do it justice. In the blink of an eye, what you thought you saw disappears. You need to be quick on the trigger and sure-sighted when hunting in this terrain. An experience second to none.

Day 3 and the family hit it out of the park! Warthog, Impala and Kudu were the trophies of the day and the smiles say it all! What an epic safari for the Wellershof Family and we are only just getting started!

After approaching a herd of Buffalo, stalking through the mist at the start of the day, the clouds descended and didn't give Dirk an opportunity of a shot. But man did they make up for it in the late afternoon with Dirk hunting this beaut of a Bull within earshot of Kirsten shooting this spectacular Black Impala minutes apart! What a dream team - what a day....
