#microreviews are coming back 👏 Since 2020, the SARN newsletter is accompanied by a #microreview. Each month, a different artist/researcher is invited to review a publication of their choosing from the standpoint of artistic research. This has resulted until now in 40 short texts. Starting in autumn 2025, the series will be taken over by an external editor. Rotterdam-based artist, independent researcher and editor Nienke Terpsma has been asked to develop a concept for the upcoming series of #microreviews. In her practice, Terpsma investigates the interstices between institutional and everyday life, spaces where forms of collective agency and experimentation can emerge. Good Art 📚 Nicoline van Harskamp is an artist whose work considers acts of language and solidarity. She has exhibited her video and installation works and staged live works internationally, and runs a number of online projects such as englishes-mooc.org and contagious-speech.org. She is also professor for performative art at the University of Fine Arts (Kunstakademie) in Münster, Germany. The exhibition will be on display Thu, Fri, Sat 1-5pm until August 2

We’ll serve drinks & bites! Catherine Schelbert’s reading of Hugo Ball’s Flametti, or the dandyism of the poor is published as FGA#44, to celebrate Fucking Good Art’s 20th anniversary, and consists of an audiobook/radio play, a read-along paperback, and 10-inch vinyl record. This new FGA is a 6h 40min audiobook / radio play adaptation of the English translation of Hugo Ball’s 1916 novel Flametti, or the dandyism of the poor, with music in the spirit of Dada by Robert Hamelijnck, Nina Hitz, Nienke Terpsma, and also starring Vilbjørg Broch, Lucas Simonis, Klaas Hekman & Wu Wei, and Christien Coetzee (in order of appearance). Flametti, or the dandyism of the poor is a dark satirical comedy about an impoverished vaudeville company and the rise and fall of its director Max Flametti, a figure of tragic proportions entangled in his inescapable self. It is also the story of the allure of the “Fuchsweide, the concert and entertainment quarter of the off-beat, fun-loving crowd,” which is in danger of being “cleansed” by the police. This deceptively straightforward, everyman tale eloquently renders the complex, conflicted, non-professionalized, messy, forgotten humus of a vibrant urban scene that prevailed in Zurich over a hundred years ago. Last Thursday evening 21:00 De Aanschouw "wissel 1143" took place at Cafe Arie and a big FGA-fanbase showed up. For a week you can look at our wonderful historical piece from 2007: Fucking Good Art Kunsthalle (lightbox). We made this for the exhibition Exchanging Roles—8 Alternative Platforms from Rotterdam at Careof in Milan, curated by the lovely Patricia Pulles, at that time curator Stadscollectie Boijmans. rh
