One of the most unusual stays I’ve done in Wales, and I mean that in the best possible way.
Ad| We stayed at Fforest Farm near Cardigan in West Wales for a weekend of food, nature, wood-fired hot tubs, sauna, cold dips, woodland walks, and the kind of peace you don’t realise you need until you’re in it.
It’s 200 acres of woodland by the River Teifi, with cabins, domes, a farmhouse, communal spaces, a tiny stone pub, and proper food cooked over fire. Not “nice enough for a staycation” food. Really, really good food.
We stayed in a crogloft, where the kitchen is outside, so your morning coffee happens stood in the trees instead of scrolling in bed. Which, frankly, did wonders for my brain and made me briefly believe I was a calmer person.
The whole place feels like a proper Welsh retreat, but not in a forced wellness way. No one is making you meditate. No one is handing you a juice and asking about your intentions. Thank God.
You just slow down.
You walk through the woods. You hear the birds. You notice light through the trees. You sit in the hot tub. You wander to the sauna. You chat to people in the little pub, or you don’t. Both feel completely right.
We went for the Fforest Feast with Ben Allen, and honestly, if you’re looking for a food-led weekend in Wales, this is the one I’d book. Long tables, candles, flowers, fire cooking, seasonal produce, bread and Welsh butter, wine flowing, people chatting, and no one checking the time.
If you’re searching for one of the best places to stay in West Wales, a nature retreat in Wales, a dog-friendly stay near Cardigan, a romantic weekend away in Wales, a foodie staycation, a glamping-style escape without the cliché, or somewhere to switch off properly, Fforest is worth looking at.
They run different weekends and experiences throughout the year, but if you’re asking me, book the Fforest Feast weekend. Stay over, eat well, sit in the trees, wear the comfy clothes, forget the noise for a bit.
We escaped real life for a little while, and it was bloody wonderful.
Save this for your next West Wales weekend away.
