Shwmae! 🌸🌿
Spring is here, a time of creating and beginning - so what better time to share what I’ve been making!
Crochet has been such a beautiful and joyful outlet for me - especially during the winter - and I’ve decided to start sharing all the things I’ve been creating and designing in the hopes that it might bring some of that joy to others! So here’s a little off the shoulder top that I designed, inspired by a vintage doily pattern.
She’s ready for spring!

Shwmae!
Fflur dw i - cantores gwerin, a myfyrwyr hanes yr hen fyd, sydd wedi seilio yn Abertawe ac wedi ysbrydoli gan y byd tatŵo. Yn ddiweddar, dw i ‘di cael y pleser o weithio gyda Bloedd ac Amgueddfa Cymru fel casglwr hanes llafar.
Fel arfer, byddech yn dod o hyd i mi’n ymchwilio am oriau yn y llyfrgell, neu’n perfformio ar y llwyfan gyda fy mhartner canu, neu jest yn cerdded a gwerthfawrogi’r dirwedd swynol sydd o ‘nghwmpas. Ond, dros y misoedd diwethaf, dw i ‘di bod yn treulio fy amser yn casglu a recordio straeon, profiadau, a hanesion o artistiaid tatŵ ar draws Cymru, wrth weithio fel rhan o dîm ardderchog ar brosiect am Jessie Knight, y fenyw gyntaf ym Mhrydain i fod yn artist tatŵ proffesiynol.
Mae ymchwilio hanes a darganfod ffyrdd newydd i adrodd straen yn ddiddordebau mawr i mi, ac mae’r prosiect yma wedi dangos i mi pa mor greadigol, bywiog, ac ysbrydoledig all hanes fod. Rwy mor ddiolchgar i fod yn rhan o ddathlu etifeddiaeth Jessie a hanes dosbarth gweithiol Cymru, ac i roi platfform i artistiaid i arddangos ei hanes.
Rwy’n awyddus i weld sut bydd y prosiect yn datblygu… Felly cadwch lygaid mas!
I’m Fflur, a tattoo-obsessed folk musician and ancient history student based in Swansea, and recently I’ve had the pleasure of working with Bloedd at Museum Wales as an oral history collector.
I feel most at home falling down research rabbit holes at the library, singing on stage with my music partner, and exploring the wonderful, magical landscape here in South Wales. These last few months, though, I’ve been spending my time collecting and recording stories, experiences, and histories from tattoo artists across the country, working in an amazing team as part of a project on Jessie Knight, the first professional female tattoo artist in the UK.
I have a firm passion for both research and storytelling, and this project has reminded me how lively, creative, and impactful history can be. I feel so grateful to be able to play a part in celebrating Jessie’s legacy and championing working class Welsh history, and in giving a platform to artists to share their stories.
I really can’t wait to see where else this project takes us. So stay tuned!
