π’ CARGO is the story of a journey that the filmmaker made on a container ship with a group of Romanian, Polish, and Filipino sailors, who were delivering cargo to the Middle East. Most of the sailors werenβt allowed to leave the boat, and they spent their days waiting, singing karaoke, and telling stories. In Syria, the ports were military zones, so she hid at a porthole and secretly filmed the life below: a man stealing wood, a soldier fishing off the edge of an abandoned submarine. Later, Waddington made a narrative that falls between reality and fiction as a way of showing the limbo that these men were living in.

π In APOTNOJUSHI (THE HOUSE OF THE WIND), director Marbel Vanegas Jusayu documents the social, spiritual, and environmental impacts of the installation of a wind farm in Apotnojushi, a historically marginalized community that remains committed to its sovereignty. Women leaders such as Ana Rosa Jusayu, the directorβs mother, work to strengthen the social fabric, activate historical memory, and assert their right to determine their future. Through the voices and living portraits of community members, the piece reflects in its vignettes the communityβs deep connection to its ancestral territory.

πΏ @semaine_de_la_critique is officially here!
Born from a desire to break the mold of the traditional festival circuit, this parallel section of Cannes remains the main space for discovering the worldβs most singular emerging voices. For over six decades, Semaine de la Critique has stood as the ultimate gateway for first and second-time filmmakers. Run entirely by critics, the section prioritizes revelations, in order to spotlight new modes of storytelling. This yearβs selection turns its lens toward the eyes of the young, finding a boundlessness of life even amidst the world's most unsettling dramas.

β THE DEVILβS THROAT by Mateo RamΓrez draws on family archives from a trip to IguazΓΊ Falls, bringing us closer not only to the physicality of memory but also to the traces of absence. Images from the past, filmed by the directorβs father, are interrogated by the son in the present, tracing a personal cartography where emptiness, secrets, and grief surface. In this shift between times, the film invites us to witness, as intimate accomplices, a second journey: that of farewell.
