VILLA REGENBOGENHAUSEN (MUC) — NIKOLAUS TEE 06/12/2025 This was the first real-world test of a GENERATIVE SOUNDSCAPE, designed to exist together with a TEA CEREMONY 🍵 🎛🔊⚡️🫖 *musical equipment by @playtronica — midi controller TOUCHME HOW DOES IT WORK: Tea moves between different vessels, and through this movement it transforms into shared pleasure. Some elements of the teaware are equipped with sensors. They react to temperature changes and to contact with each other. When tea connects them, its moisture closes an electrical circuit — tea is an excellent conductor. Sensor signals are converted into MIDI messages. This defines the key and the musical mode. The sound consists of layered low-frequency synthesis, combined with processed samples of water and nature. Some sounds were recorded on wild waters of Karelia, others in Munich, on the Isar river. Heavy randomization is added to the system. Every touch creates a new sound, and each incoming impulse reshapes the entire soundscape. Technically, the main challenge was balancing predictability and unpredictability — just like in real life. The current version naturally unfolds for about 30 to 60 minutes, which felt like the right format for the first public test. Participants were engaged and satisfied. So were we! IN THE NEXT ITERATION: - more layers and variability will be added - control over the soundscape will be handed directly to the participants — allowing them to explore how sound can be extracted from tea itself 🫶 #festea #tea #chinesetea #teaceremonies #music #electronicmusic #ambient #soundscape #diy #playtronica #festival
