Inspired by the symbolism of my astrological sign, Scorpio,
I imagined this:
If one day Earth were to be destroyed,
an alien named Mr. Ku, from a distant planet, would descend to whatâs left of it.
And at the exact moment he arrives,
a creature as fierce and resilient as the Scorpion would be waiting.
An encounter no one saw coming .

One winter afternoon, here in my studio,
I remember it was the day after they came to prune the tree behind the house,
the same tree where, once, the Owl perched.
Rummaging through drawers, I found the catalog of an exhibition I had seen at the
Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
On the cover, Jeff Koonsâ inflatable lobster.
I remember thinking:
How lucky I am!
Jeff Koons, the master of the retrospective,
and Basquiat, in the very same show.
On my canvas, the lobster sheds itself, leaving its shell behind.
It knows the one it has is too small, suffocating it.
And that it must make itself a new one.
That is best.
Then melancholy settled in,
like something that has gone,
and will never again be the same,
unleashing the threads of time,
here, in my heart.
A pink spray can seems to inflate it,
like Jeff Koonsâ lobster,
while circles of rusted cans
and Basquiat-like strokes
venerate it.
In the back of the house,
in that now-barren tree,
full moon in Scorpio,
the Owl returned,
but not the same.
Like the lobster.
Like the tree.
Like you.
Acrylic, markers and aerosols, painted on canvas.

This spring, I began the habit of taking Rita for walks around the lakes in Palermo, Buenos
Aires.
One afternoon, as we sat on a bench facing the water, lost in thought, I saw a man walk by
with a deformed arm.
His hand hung there, motionless, tiny, like death itself.
But what struck me most was that the entire arm was tattooed, as if, instead of hiding its
ugliness, he wanted to draw attention to it.
Look at me, Iâm deformed and ugly.
Feel my rage and suffering.
It happened the day after the opening cocktail for my show at a gallery in San Telmo.
That night, all I could see were Monsters.
Wolves in sheepâs clothing.
Sheep in wolvesâ clothing.
Look at me, Iâm beautiful.
Feel my rage and suffering.
On canvas, black oil paint brings a disfigured, figurative character to life, its arm long and
distorted.
Vermillion-red aerosol reveals him:
The man with the deformed arm.
