I’m Fernanda aka Ferfetz, a Brazilian visual artist who moved to the U.S. in 2014. I moved to Texas in 2015 to pursue a better life and education.
Over time, my journey expanded beyond creating art into becoming a Teaching Artist. I work closely with youth navigating challenging life circumstances, creating spaces where they can express themselves, build confidence, and feel seen. I also lead workshops for adults and work after-school programs across the DFW area.
Living far from my family has pushed me to grow, stay resilient, and keep striving to become the best version of myself, both as an artist and as a person.

One of my favorite ways to work with the youth is through designing their own t-shirts. Watching their ideas come to life is priceless! They express themselves with so much confidence and often with a sense of love and support for each other. These kids truly inspire me every day! ❤️👕

I’m incredibly humbled to have my story featured by Big Thought in their latest blog post. This journey as an artist and educator hasn’t been easy, but it’s a story I’m proud to share.
As a solo immigrant from Brazil, navigating life in a new country has been filled with challenges—learning not one but two languages, building a career from the ground up, and finding my place in a world so far from home.
Losing my mother last year was one of the hardest moments of my life, but it reminded me why I do what I do. I always told her how CREATIVE SOLUTIONS was a dream for me. Art has been my anchor, my voice, and my way to connect with others, especially young people in the juvenile justice system. Through creativity, I’ve found a way to help them express themselves, heal, and dream big—just as I have had to do.
I hope my story inspires others to persevere, embrace their struggles, their accents and believe in the power of art and education to transform lives.

Through my work with @bigthought , @pakcof and I also led workshops for Dallas County probation officers, giving them a deeper understanding of the impact and purpose behind our summer program, Creative Solutions. It’s been a meaningful experience helping them express themselves through painting and guiding them in creating their own album covers after the purposeful songwritting class by Pakco.
This will be my fourth year with the program, and I’m excited to continue teaching art, building connections, and learning alongside the youth we serve!
Thank you @vcoronado_7 for supporting my ideas and always giving us space to be who we are.
