Sharing one of my favourite Lord of the Rings miniatures, my scene that reached the Golden Demon 25 finals this year at Essen. I also entered this piece earlier at Golden Demon 25 Milwaukee, so it’s been with me through a big part of my 2025 painting journey.
Both characters were made from the same Saruman & Wormtongue sprue, fully reworked to tell this moment in a more dramatic way. The background is sculpted in Milliput, and the bomb is scratch-built using two parts from the Uruk-hai siege sprue. I love pushing what a single sprue can do, kitbashing is still one of the most creative parts of the hobby.
This project was all about atmosphere: cold textures, turquoise reflections, and that classic LOTR tension between the characters. It’s a small diorama, but one of the most satisfying pieces I’ve painted since GD 25.

Yesterday I shared the full lineup of the busts we painted together during our Sunday session, including that fun “community bust” on the far left that we all worked on by passing it around while painting our own pieces.
Today it’s my turn to show you my finished version of this beautiful sculpt by @hugo_gomez_briones
This piece was all about pushing contrast, 3 light sources and exploring colour in a very instinctive way: cold, eerie highlights meeting volcanic reds, trying to let the light tell the story. It’s the kind of bust that pulls you out of your comfort zone in the best possible way, and painting it surrounded by talented friends made the whole experience even better.
Nothing beats a relaxed day of painting, laughing, and creating together. Can’t wait for the next one!

A brief recap of my experience at Monte San Savino: I’m thrilled to have earned a Silver Medal in the Master Historical Painting category with Rebels on Wheels and a Bronze Medal in the Master Fantasy Open category with @joapala ’s sculpt of Phasmos Yrevh (based on @art.of.migueliglesias ' illustration).

Sketching this dwarf from @quentin.sculptor reminded me of something important.
Clean volumes > unnecessary detail.
That’s why this kind of piece works for both beginners and experienced painters. Save it if you tend to overcomplicate your sketches.

Winning Best of Fantasy at the AMT Torrent 30th anniversary, among more than 1,400 entries, still doesn’t feel quite real. Not because of the trophy, but because of everything around it.
This weekend wasn’t about competition. It was about those in-between moments: conversations over coffee, beers after a long day, sharing thoughts, laughs, and ideas with people who care about this craft as much as I do. That’s the real reward.
To everyone I had the chance to spend time with, thank you. You’re the reason events like this matter.
I honestly don’t know when (or if) something like this will happen again. Winning a Best of Fantasy at such a special event, celebrating 30 years of AMT Torrent, is something I’ll carry with me for a long time.
And there was another moment that meant just as much to me: I brought copies of my book… and they were all gone by Saturday.
Seeing people trust your work, your ideas, your way of understanding this hobby... it hits differently. So if you picked one up, thank you. Truly. This is a reminder of why I do this.Not just to paint. Not just to compete.
But to connect with all of you

This piece closes its journey as a double finalist:
Golden Demon Adepticon 2026 and Essen 2026. A Warhammer 40,000 diorama inspired by the lore of the Space Wolves.
Before becoming Space Marines, the chosen are taken from the Fenrisian tribes. This scene represents that moment: two warriors from different tribes fighting for a chance… while a Wolf Priest observes and decides.
Ulrich the Slayer stands above them, not as a warrior, but as a judge.
Around 300 hours focused on composition, sculpting, converting, giving atmosphere and storytelling. Not just painting a scene, but trying to give a meaning.
Now it’s officially retired from competition, I hope you like it. Thanks to everyone!

This is the full process behind my Cirith Ungol diorama, from the first rough ideas to the final piece shown at Golden Demon Adepticon2026. More than 200 hours of work, problem solving, rebuilding, and pushing decisions further than felt comfortable.
The stairs weren’t just structure, they became part of the storytelling, to me the stairs was another character.
The rocks was a long way to sculpt and paint.
The tension between Frodo and Gollum had to read instantly.
A lot of things didn’t work at first.Some parts had to be redone completely, as the last part of the stairs to the top or the spiderweb (done with a surgery mask)
That’s the part you don’t usually see.
If you’re working on a miniature painting project, a diorama, or trying to push from tabletop to display level, this is the real process:
build → fail → adjust → repeat.
