What does it mean to create something “hyperlocally”?
We sat down with Izyanti Asa’ari of @fellowdesign.co and Corrine Chia of @druggists_sg to explore how this idea shaped their collaborative public bench for the Makers’ Trail.
Druggists is an independent craft beer taproom that’s called Jalan Besar home for the past decade. Housed in a heritage building owned by the Chinese Druggists Association, it’s a space where old meets new — preserving history while fostering a vibrant local community around good beer.
As it turns out, the passionately independent spirit that defines Druggists is characteristic of Jalan Besar itself: a place where independent makers actively contribute to the fabric of the district.

To reflect how these Malay female writers rebel aginst the culture of their time, familiar material patterns found in domestic settings are subverted through digitization.
The fixed perimeters of a ‘pixel’ square expands to form a dynamic geometric frame. In this transformation, what was originally a rigid module, becomes a representation of paradigms shifting. This is in the same spirit of our Literary Pioneers – how they did not conform, choosing to break out from societal expectations that were placed upon them.
As an act of resistance, each push and moment of writing expands the parameters of our social fabric.

Poster design for AS IT IS, a presentation by metal fabrication workshop Baremetalco and 4 artists. The project takes its name from the “as-is” corner of IKEA, where showroom pieces receive a second life. Here, artists examine the potential of scrap metal as material refurbished and reframed. Remnants reactivated as artwork.
Developed over 3 months, the partnership explored the parameters of what a metal workshop can be. Is it as malleable as the material itself? What is the dynamic between the labours of visual arts, craft and fabrication?

The poster articulates the discord of experimentation; the manipulation of textures and mediums as to their insinuations of aspiration, conflict and passion. What is the future of metal works in Singapore, for the fabrication industry and for artists?
