Thirty years ago, I started making shoes in a world that was changing fast. Globalization was accelerating, and I wanted to be part of it. It opened access to the world-to people, to cultures and that pull became my first brand, Royal Elastics, launched at a moment when lifestyle footwear was just beginning to take shape. Back then, culture moved through tangible channels: magazines, grassroots events, stores, scenes, music. Credibility wasn't something you could manufacture, it came from participation. If you wanted to understand what was really happening, you had to dig in the crates and find your way to the source yourself. The work demanded the same kind of presence. Relationships were formed on the ground, through real contact and shared experience. In the years that followed, the industry accelerated. Growth and efficiency became the priority. It started to take a toll on the planet, on product, and on people. The connection between an object and how it was made began to thin. FEIT came out of that realization. Each FEIT Handsewn Shoe is crafted over 14 days by a single maker. It begins with the one-piece upper, pulled tightly over the last and nailed into place. The shoe rests up to 10 days in a room of light steam and humidity, allowing the leather to tighten and mold to its final form. A bamboo leather footbed and layer of cork are placed inside the midsole, then the shoe is hand sewn to completion over two days. No two pairs are alike.
