我去拜访了中国最后的母系社会。 I visited China’s last matriarchal society. 作为女性，我们的未来是什么？ As woman, where is our destination? 带着这样的问题去云南看了摩梭人的生活方式。这里的男人不会男凝，村庄长年保持零犯罪率，没有孤寡老人和孤儿。在这个云南深山被母系力量包围着的社会里，她们用2000年的经验去打造出了一个和谐的世界。 With this question in mind, I visited the mosuo people located in the Chinese himalayas. Mosuo man has no concept of the male gaze, the village has no orphans, no elders left uncared for, and the society maintains zero crime rate for decades. They managed to build a peaceful civilization with over 2000 years of intentional social reconstruction. 和村民们一起吃了饭，和一家之主（只会指定祖母或最有能力的女性）聊了她们的价值观。和外界的设想不同，摩梭人注重的是女性的完全自由：在没有社会和家庭压力的情况下自由选择自己的人生。没有人（包括家人，爱人，友人）可以质疑一个女性为她自己所做出的决定，只能表示尊重和支持。 I talked to the leaders of the households about the value of mosuo society. (normally the grandma, or appointed women of capabilities) unlike external expectations, the mosuo people prioritize female autonomy: the right to craft and make life decision without societal and family pressure. Nobody (including family, friends or lovers) can question a women’s decision once it’s final, they can only show respect, understanding and support her journey to the unknown. 做非遗保护的摩梭男学者和我说：”母系社会并不代表女人独权，作为男人，摩梭的社会架构，传说和习俗都围绕着一个想法：承认女性的影响力，延续生命的独特能力，和更有效的处事能力。这也是为什么无论性别和时代，摩梭人（包括男人）都在主动的保护这个古老的文明，因为这个社会架构让所有人都可以从中受益，并和谐相处。” A mosuo culture guardian told me: “the Mosuo matriarchal society does not equate to women’s supremacy. Mosuo's social structure, folktales and customs revolve around one idea: the recognition of women's influence, their unique ability to reproduce, and higher efficency for problem solving. This is why Mosuo people (including men) are taking the initiative to protect this ancient civilization regardless of gender, because this social structure benefits everyone and allows us to live in harmony.” 在这个欲望和冲突蠢蠢欲动的年代，也许摩梭人的生活观可以让我们看到一丝希望。 In this era of lust and conflict, perhaps the Mosuo people's view of life can give us a glimmer of hope. “外面的世界一直在想我们怎么要在冲突中成为赢家，但是我们不懂人类社会为什么一开始要有冲突？” "The outside world has been thinking about how we can win in conflicts, but we don't understand why are we fighting in the first place?” #mosuo #matriarchy
