Sempre gostei de juntar meus múltiplos e variados interesses, e, com isso, surgiu meu novo projeto:
✨Skatarot: A cultura do skate com um olhar místico.✨
Para começar, trouxe a releitura da carta “0 ou 22 – O Louco”, com a manobra Boneless, que surgiu nos anos 70, mas se popularizou ali nos anos 80. A manobra te faz parecer maluquinho quando é mandada, mas abriu várias possibilidades na transição que estava acontecendo na época em que surgiu.
Mas por que a escolha? Bom, quem conhece o significado da carta sabe que ela combina com essa manobra. E uma das pessoas que ajudou a popularizá-la foi o Gonz, um dos caras mais maluquinhos e criativos do skate. Mas, para além disso, ela surgiu nos anos 70, e muitos caras dessa época (e até mesmo mais novos) ainda estão presos no tempo, com pensamentos machistas, retrógrados e preconceituosos — afastando o que a contracultura sempre teve de melhor: a criatividade e a diversidade. Bom, isso é um papo longo, e talvez eu escreva mais sobre isso no futuro.
🇬🇧 • I’ve always liked bringing together my many and varied interests, and from that came my new project:
✨Skatarot: The skateboarding culture with a mystic view.✨
To kick things off, I brought a reinterpretation of the card “0 or 22 – The Fool”, alongside the Boneless trick, which appeared in the 70s but really gained popularity in the 80s. It’s a trick that makes you look a bit daft when you pull it off, but it opened up loads of possibilities during the transition that was happening at the time it emerged.
But why this choice? Well, anyone who knows the meaning behind the card knows it fits this trick perfectly. And one of the people who helped popularise it was Gonz — one of the most eccentric and creative figures in skateboarding. But beyond that, the trick came about in the 70s, and many of the guys from that time (and even some younger ones) are still stuck in the past, holding onto sexist, outdated, and prejudiced views — pushing away what the counterculture has always had at its core: creativity and diversity.
Anyway, that’s a longer conversation, and maybe I’ll write more about it in the future.
