It’s not always the uphill that is the struggle. This hill of Poppies in full bloom was magical. However on my way down and across the street I was so happy I somehow missed a step while crossing the street and twisted my ankle really bad. I don’t think I have ever been in that much pain. Funniest part was @laurapadillahalcon across the street who would not stop laughing as it was a pretty funny vision. And two seconds later @tearintaren comes around the corner (she missed my fall) and asks me to cross the street again for a shot. I was so happy to be out in nature so I decided to postpone the pain and keep on keeping on with my fucked up foot for the rest of the day. Trying to organize some of my photography and love stumbling upon fun adventures. Finally the last little bits came together and @kailleen and I got to shoot this room last, my favorite but also hardest. This was a basement with dirt and now it’s a cozy little second living room. I came up with the idea of a bookshelf to cover up the retaining wall behind that we could not carve into. I wanted it fun and blue and alive, with round curves, swiggles. ♒️💙 📹Katie Marble Most thankful for my little fellow creative Bernie. Never do I feel completely lonely, never a dull moment. Dogs are the best. It is hard running a business alone, working and living alone and when I have to wake up at 5am to carry several bags up a mountain to my car and run around on just steam I know it’s all worth it in the end. Know to never give up, cause when you have been able to experience a reward from hard work you will always keep on going. A little snippet of site visit action from yesterday at the Round Top Project in Eagle Rock. @katieamarble tagged along and grabbed some photos of process and some BTS. Tile is my favorite and it has been a fun couple of weeks seeing all the colors together. It’s always trickier when you have a lot of color. My client is bold and brave and wanted alot of it. I had a rule when narrowing down my selections that all of them should be able to be mixed and matched from room to room! We are so close wrapping this one up!! So excited to see this buttery yellow island almost complete! #tiledcountertop #tile #interiordesign #mcm

I get asked a lot what I do for a living, and I always feel a little nervous answering. There’s so much pressure to fit into one thing, one title, one box. The best I can say is that I make things to make people feel something. I follow curiosity and what I love. Creating, baking, designing, feeding people, writing a song, capturing a moment, these have all been part of my life for as long as I can remember. To me it’s all the same language. A meal is a story. A home is a story. Even a photograph can hold a moment in someone’s life in a way nothing else can. I love the way Katie captured this day, when @clemencegourmandise invited us to bring @abunbunbakery to @petitgrainboulangerie (the best of the best) Santa Monica, to the same neighborhood where I lived for 10 years, where I used to bake and feed people in my little yellow cottage on 7th street, the house that allowed me to shape my creative life. Shot on black-and-white 35mm film, these images feel like memories more than anything else. Thank you @katieamarble for capturing it so beautifully. First person to spy Bernie’s little face gets a $20 gift card at Bun Bun. It was the first thing I saw. ✨👀

My Highland Park Cottage was built in 1924. The kitchen is still original and I believe a lot of a homes character and feel comes from collected items over time. I used to go to @svdpla_thriftstore several times a week but have barely been this past year until this week where I went twice and found some perfect little items. ✨ I’m so happy with the little sheer curtain separating the kitchen and the living room, and with the beautiful linen that will be used as some sort of curtain/shade in the kitchen during hot days baking. I listening to a great episode of @billgrenwoodpodcast and was about to order some Bistro Wine Glasses until I just stumbled upon a set of 6 for $8. The secret to good thrifting is to go often and to put on your curator hat and enjoy the process. #interiordesign #kitchendecor #thrifthaul

Lately I’ve been thinking less about 2016 flashbacks and more about what was happening 100 years ago. My lineage runs through northern Sweden, through Smyrna and the fires of 1922, through refugee years in Italy, through Athens, through poverty, illness, physical labor, and survival. Women who carried families while in pain. Men and children displaced by war. Generations shaped by instability long before they ever had language for it. History doesn’t repeat itself exactly, but it rhymes. And the rise of authoritarianism, scapegoating, and fear-based politics today feels painfully familiar when you look far enough back. Most people living in the 1920s didn’t think they were on the road to catastrophe. They thought they were restoring order. I live in the US now, and many people don’t see me as an immigrant, but I am. I come from two different countries in Europe, and my presence here is just a more recent chapter in a much longer story of movement, survival, and resettlement. In that sense, most of us are immigrants if we look back far enough. Looking backward isn’t nostalgia, it’s responsibility. It’s how we learn to recognize patterns before they harden. My politics come from this history. From believing that dignity, solidarity, labor rights, and care for the most vulnerable aren’t radical ideas, they’re what kept people alive in my family when systems failed them. It might be a trend to scroll back through our photos to 2016, but how many of us know our family’s history in the 1920s? Do we know the moments when the world shifted, and how those shifts landed inside our own families? History isn’t just something that happens out there. It happens through people. The past isn’t gone. It’s speaking if we’re willing to listen.

Bun Bun Bakery @petitgrainboulangerie this Monday, December 15th 🫶🏽 I’m coming back to Santa Monica, a place that shaped so much of my life. My very first little bungalow in LA was right here, and for almost ten years this neighborhood was home. 🏠 Bun Bun has always been rooted in nostalgia and the feeling of home, so having my first pop-up here feels especially meaningful at one of my absolute favorite bakeries. This Monday, I’ll be popping up inside @petitgrainboulangerie with a selection of my hand-rolled Swedish buns: cardamom, saffron, and a little holiday magic.✨✨ If you’re in the neighborhood, come by, say hi, have a fika and grab a bun fresh from the oven. I can’t wait to see familiar faces and meet new ones, too. ✨ #cardamombuns #bunbunbakery #buns #petitgrainboulangerie #bakery

This afternoon the low light hit just right, and as I was finishing my workday, I passed my guitar, full of dust never played on. I’ve been doubting a lot lately, my entire journey. Has it been worth all the struggle and sacrifice? Some days I wonder, and too much lately. But for a few minutes, I was able to disconnect and go back in time. To 2007, sitting in Central Park at 21, when I started writing Feeling Free. I finished it later in LA, still chasing that same spark. That song became more than music, it’s the thread through everything I’ve built: @feelingfreephotography , @feelingfreeinteriors @sofiadraco music @bunbunbakery , and here @feelingfree . To everyone who has supported me by hiring me through different facets of my creativity, thank you for believing in this mix of things that I am. I’m so grateful. Even in doubt, this song reminds me: you haven’t failed. You’re still here. Still going. Still free. Feeling Free (lyrics below) Feeling Free I packed my brother’s car, I had enough
I had to leave this town
I drove through the desert land, there was nothing I wished I had
’Cause in my town, there was no way for me to be myself So I’m not going back,
I’m not turning the wheel or changing tracks
This is for real
This is right for me, this is what I wanna be
Just feeling free, feeling free Almost a year has passed, I’m still driving
And I love my life, it has been times
When I was out of gas but on my own, I brought it back, yeah So I’m not going back,
I’m not turning the wheels or changing tracks
This is for real
This is right for me, this is what I wanna be
Just feeling free, feeling free You have to throw yourself through that fire
Take that chance that may burn to dust
’Cause from that you learn, be a flame and burn
You are all a dream can be So I’m not going back... #feelingfree

Carl Larsson, the Swedish painter of light and domestic life, once wrote of his own home in the heart of Sweden, 30 minutes from where I grew up in Dalarna: Not grand, not gilded, just a humble cottage, pieced together with more love than money. He admitted, with humor, that it cost him dearly in income, and yet it gave back tenfold: a stage for beauty, for family, for art. He remembered a verse about work, hope, and the sun shining kindly on the fields- how a home, however modest, can become a place of peace, joy, and perspective. I think of that as I stand in my own little 1924 Craftsman in Los Angeles. It isn’t mine to own, but it is mine to love. And in my hands it can be cared for, invited into, and given as much beauty as I can possibly offer. And so, at Bun Drop No. 3,garden gates opened and people stepped through to pick up their orders, we all became part of that spirit every guest adding to the magic, each moment weaving this little home more deeply into life. A massive thank you to everyone ordering, coming in for coffee, helping me with the orders, packing and everything else needed to make this happen. Thank you for sharing this experience with your community and telling your friends to order. I’m so grateful. These bun drops take a lot of work to make happen but the reward is worth every second. Thank you! 🌟

It’s a whole new meaning to the term bun drop. When we said bun drop, we weren’t kidding…🧺buns are literally lowering out of the Bun Bun kitchen window in a basket. I don’t know if fika pickup gets more fun than this. This could be you next Sunday!! This second drop is extra special, in honor of my grandma, Gertrud, who would have turned 100 today, I snuck in her beloved blueberry bun, the Hundra Bun, to celebrate. She is truly missed and every bun is baked with the love and nostalgia she passed on. Limited Drop #2 is now✨ OPEN✨ through Wednesday! See you Sunday!!! So much love to @katiemarble who helped me get this setup ready, shot the video and also thrifted the best possible basket.💕 Thank you @eliseapffel ✨ #Bunbunbakery #abunbunbakery #microbakery #cottagebakery #LAeats #highlandpark #buns #CardamomBuns

I sold out my initial batch of buns on Saturday and was so blown away by the response that I added another batch. Now we’re nearly completely sold out again. 75 buns are going out this Sunday, fresh from my little oven in Highland Park. 🥹💛 Every bun is handmade from kneading and rolling to shaping each knot by hand and loading them into the oven while the sun rises. It’s been such a beautiful first drop, and I’m so grateful for the support, encouragement, and orders from friends, neighbors, and new faces alike.❤️ These early days have been captured on film by my dear friend @katieamarble , and I love how her photos reflect the heart and slowness of this process. If you missed this drop, don’t worry, there’s still a handful of buns left and pre-orders open again next Saturday for pickup the following Sunday. All of you ordered so far, see you Sunday! I will have coffee and tea for anyone wanting a little drink. Thank you for making this real.
