MOODBOARD has been out for a week now. Many thanks to all who preordered and bought the record on release - those have all gone out into the postal ether now. Very proud of this release and previous @xcrswx releases on the label. As I soppily said in a previous post… without @xcrswx there would be no @feedback___moves - simple. We are launching the record TONIGHT December 13th at @cafeotodalston with a stacked line up of friends and close collaborators @mondai_jxn_xoxo @keirajfox @hjsr_ric COME x

Now available to pre-order: MOODBOARD by @xcrswx Without releasing the first @xcrswx 7”, Feedback Moves would not make sense. It was the perfect beginning. A springboard that let everything else fall into place. I first saw @xcrswx at Cafe Oto in 2019, opening for Body/Head. I genuinely had no idea what to expect. The music was seemingly anarchic yet, at the same time, carried an intense and crystallised focus. I’d been longing to witness music that held the same intensity as the no-wave, free-jazz and jungle musics that I love and which, until that point, had existed separately in my brain. Seeing the duo play that night brought all of the life and force of those disparate sounds and melted them into a singular assault. I had various half-baked ideas for starting the label but after seeing Crystabel and Seymour play together I scrapped everything and asked them to be the first release. It’s been a privilege to release their work and I was very excited when they told me they had plans to send over an LP. It’s been a wee while in the making but it’s now finally ready to share. Enjoy! @xcrswx 🖤

Thank you @boomkatonline for your ears, words and snazzy pictures. An excerpt from the write up: “Firstly, it’s a long record, divided into four purposefully uneven segments. And the opening (almost 40-minute) track is mischievously its most uncompromisingly ear-splitting, comprised of brittle, rapid-fire note clusters and buckled distortions that don’t so much test the patience as subject it to a full evaluation. Anyone with a strong constitution, however, is rewarded; Kim’s advanced, thoughtful mutations are a proper shock to the system, veering very consciously away from metered, DAW-era electronic music. The sounds themselves are crypto-referential, ranging from cheapo videogame-esque chirps and fantastical-yet-familiar SFX to electroid squelches (possibly the only times Kim allows herself to aesthetically reference Gerald Donald), but they’re there to force us into a mode of contemplation. If you’ve only come across certain sounds when they’re locked on grids, it makes it even harder to ignore it when they’ve been set free.”

Formenverwandler by Sunik Kim is out today 💥 Thank you everyone who pre-ordered, really appreciate it. Today is a good day to grab it if you want to see more money go towards artist and label. Sadly, the CDs haven’t arrived yet, but should be here next week and will be mailed immediately. If you’re in the US and would like a copy I’ll be sending a box out there for Sunik to handle a sort of local distro service, don’t pay the extortionate postage! And if you’d like to see it in any record shops or if you run a small distro, hmu and I will try to get it in - currently distro’ing this myself. Thanks again and biggest thanks to Sunik for trusting Feedback Moves with the music! 🖤

Beyond excited to announce the new album Formenverwandler by Sunik Kim, a Los Angeles-based musician, writer and filmmaker who has previously released music on Notice Recordings, Rope Editions and OTOROKU. Spanning almost 2 hours, Formenverwandler is a detailed and considered study on time and duration. Drawing from her extensive research on composer Conlon Nancarrow, Formenverwandler sees Kim exploring the time or tempo canon, which can pull and project the listener’s senses, melting the temporal and spatial perception of presented sounds. As in previous works such as 2022’s Raid on the White Tiger Regiment and 2023’s Potential, Kim deploys patches and tools she has designed for SuperCollider, which take raw, utilitarian General MIDI notes and multiply and spray them into frenetic webs and networks of spiraling sound. It is within these networks that sounds, recognisable and familiar, are placed, scattered and gathered into new structures that appear to shapeshift, constantly morphing in meter. The album’s title Formenverwandler (German for shapeshifter, taken from the classic Der Zyklus track) perfectly encapsulates this collection of pieces that are in constant motion and in a state of reflection and restructure. The four pieces are mirrors and refolds of one another, both stretched and condensed in various directions and examined to the point of near exhaustion. Along with the music, Kim has written an essay which outlines the thoughts, actions and reflections that make up this body of work. Reading the essay—and rereading it—is an endlessly insightful way of entering and understanding the headspace that produced this deeply considered music and its inner ecology. Along with rationale and reasoning, Kim interjects quotes from writers, poets and thinkers—from Lenin to Woolf—who have ruminated on and have existed within the confines of time. The album will be available physically and digitally, with a copy of Kim’s Formenverwandler essay available with both, which is also available to read freely on Bandcamp or via the link below. /formenverwandler Available to pre order now via link in bio. Out 1st August 💥 #sunikkim

New release today from Conal Blake, aka me, the person that runs Feedback Moves. Have been meaning to release this for a very long while now but have had a couple of physical and mental setbacks (coward) - but here it is. Thank you to everyone who helped it along, @grimlusk for the mastering and @ica.essi.j for the beautifully warped artwork. Have arbitrarily chosen Monday the 16th December as a release date, that’s in 5 days time - basically while I wait for the inserts to be printed. The tape will be available on my stall this weekend at the @cafeotodalston Xmas Fair, come get it. Otherwise the pre-order is available now. Will release and post any copies on Monday. Here are some quotes from anonymous people who’ve heard the music or saw it live: “It’s like Sachiko M meets Iration Steppas” “Soupy” “Your music has space, it has edges” The rest of the release info is on Bandcamp, link in le bio. Cheers !
