This beautifully considered extension by @mwbresidence transformed Anderton House — an early 1900s stone property — into a bright, modern family home while carefully preserving its original character.
Working with MWB Architecture, the project replaced an outdated conservatory with a striking single-storey extension designed to create a spacious open-plan kitchen, living and dining area for modern family life.
A key challenge was bringing natural light deep into the home due to the infill position of the extension. The solution was a stunning full elevation of Crittall-style glazing and roof lights, framed within a structural English oak feature frame that also supports the first-floor balcony above.
Inside, double pocket doors connect the new open-plan space to a cosy south-facing snug, creating flexibility, warmth and flow throughout the home.
A brilliant example of traditional architecture and contemporary living working seamlessly together.

Outside, the addition of bespoke entrance gates and a curved local stone wall completely transformed the approach to the home, creating a finish that feels both welcoming and perfectly rooted in its surroundings.

Externally, the use of standing seam cladding and Siberian larch creates a modern take on agricultural architecture, with details like a bespoke timber stable door and local dry stone walling tying the home back to its heritage. A cleverly integrated secret gutter system removes visible downpipes, keeping the finish clean and refined.
Inside, the home features underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump, polished microcement floors, a cantilevered oak staircase, and a basement cinema and bar. Large areas of glazing open the home up to the surrounding countryside, creating a strong connection to its setting.
