Paradox of Blackness by Obiage Andrew Ejiga
@obiajes_.art opens in the
@federation_gallery_ at 12 today.
Andrew is a Nigerian artist currently based in Dundee Scotland. He’s interests lie in the diverse abstract and physical markers that point towards a person’s personal, social, and cultural identity. Hiswork has an underlining theme of duality that reveals the artists interest in the sub themes of intersectionality and nuance.
Nothing is ever quite as it seems and to every rule there is an exception. Andrew is interested in the numerous and diverse cultural expectations that people and society have for us and how our individual realities can differ from societal and cultural constructs.
Andrew was awarded the George Duncan of Drumfork Scholarship fund in 2024 by Professor Anita Taylor on behalf of the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and the Global Excellence Scholarship by the university of Dundee in 2022.
