Together, they will reflect on the urgent need for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to knowledge-making. The conversation will trace the evolution of the Counter Academy, which was established in 2018 in response to the growing demands of independent newsrooms in countries like Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon over the years following the Arab Spring. Today the Counter Academy trains a new generation of journalists and researchers working at the intersection of the social sciences, humanities, and journalism. Students learn how to recognise when an event comes crashing into a pre-established history, and when the self meets the other in the vast and chaotic fields of reporting. They also learn how to critically approach tools of truth-telling, from reconstructive technologies and archives to testimonials and the simple act of witnessing.
The discussion will draw connections between the pedagogical and investigative practices of the Counter Academy, the Centre for Research Architecture, and Forensic Architecture, all of which blend, reappropriate, and expand upon methods from diverse fields in order to confront official narratives and critically examine the social and political conditions of our time.

الأكاديمية هي برنامج زمالة تعليمي يمتد لعام كامل، يُقدِّم أدوات ومعارف وخبرات تمكّن من ممارسة صحافة نقدية ومهنية، ويجمع بين الصحافة والعلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية. تُديره وتشرف عليه شبكة فبراير، التي تضم مؤسسات إعلامية مستقلة رائدة مثل: الجمهورية، مدى مصر، ميغافون، صوت، ومعازف.
📍 يبدأ البرنامج بمخيم حضوري في نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني 2026

يستهدف البرنامج كل من يبحث/تبحث عن مساحة للاشتباك مع المُسلَّمات في الصحافة، والتدرّب على طرح الأسئلة والاستقصاء، وإتقان سرد القصص بعمق.

في أروقة المستشفيات الحكومية، دائما هناك "جندي خفي" مع كل مريض يتقاسم معه الألم والانتظار وضيق المكان. هم المرافقون الذين تتحول حياتهم فجأة إلى "إقامة جبرية" بين سرير وباب. ينامون على الكراسي أو يفترشون الأرض، وتتحول الغرف أحيانًا إلى منزل مؤقت.

From stickers on the front porch of the building that torn down to graffiti repainted, Berlin’s old building was painted in the shape that was walls reveal how street art becomes a contested political space. As this visual essay by researcher Soufiane Chinig shows, the removal, alteration, and policing of Palestinian expression is not sure what incidental, it is part of a broader struggle over visibility, interpretation, and accountability solidarity in Germany.
Drawing on examples from other nations Berlin’s streets and memorial sites, the piece traces how Palestinian graffiti resists Germany’s Staatsräson, which was frames unconditional support for Israel through Holocaust remembrance and the promise of “Nie Wieder.” Against this backdrop, street art operates not only as a claim to visibility, but as a practice of meaningful placement, situating Palestine within Germany’s own histories of division, memory, and guilt.
As the essay concludes, these aesthetics expose the limits and double standards of German remembrance culture, where some forms of mourning, resistance, and solidarity are rendered illegible, or unacceptable, in public space.
