Thanks brother and bestie @veyd for some lovely photos with his fancy camera. We saw @themidnightofficial last night in Brooklyn and they put on a wonderful show that left us buzzing with new faves after hearing the live versions. Also, they have a fire sax player wandering around with a wireless mic rig. That guy adds so much.
Ok now it’s the actual #transdayofvisibility and I feel the need to post some post-workout selfies. I’m back in the gym and killing it again after many months of recovering from a series of kidney surgeries last year. I had severe hydronephrosis due to stenosis in the ureter and a very large benign parapelvic cyst. The kidney is back to full health thanks to the good docs at Mt. Sinai.
And just like my kidney I too have a clean bill of health and am back on my fitness track alongside the songwriting and recording.
Of course the news continues to be horrific, with unrelenting attacks on trans people. Today on the Trans Day of Visibility, we heard that the Supreme Court knocked down Colorado’s conversion therapy ban. Apparently coercive brainwashing of trans-people counts as free speech now.
Today is the #transdayofvisibility and I felt like it was time to surface and remind Instagram that I exist and I’m a trans woman.
Also we’ve just finished a two week workshop for @paradise_lost_in_space that culminated in two staged readings. We had 5 of 8 trans or nonbinary cast members. I’m thrilled with how it turned out and with the wonderful people I had the opportunity to collaborate with.
For years I wasn’t sure if I had the right to call myself an actual musical theater composer… but now I’m pretty convinced.
Hi I still exist and I look like this when I put on some lashes. Also I have been a busy little nerd and have new music on the way and thought you should know:
There be a full length album, a shorter one of cut or rewritten songs from various musical theater projects I’ve been involved with, and a big queer musical.
It’s been a long time since I felt like I had anything to say, but the time has come to get out there and say the things.
This is a moment that happened last month that I was super grateful. My dear friend and collaborator @jrpriceless5eva literally resurrected me from a soulless pit of despair and brought me out to the Pinkball at @museumoficecream where my spirits were restored along with my faith in humanity.
Pinkball is a yearly gala the Museum throws for its employees, and I am grateful for the infusion of joy and affirmation of life that I experienced there. It brought me out of a dark corner and put a big smile on my face, so thanks @jrpriceless5eva and all your wonderful co-workers.
Bodily autonomy, my babes. Attacks on the bodily autonomy of trans women are attacks on the bodily autonomy of all women.
We are at a critical moment in the USA and all over the world and we must fight for our right to self-determine.
I just want you to know that trans women are still here, and no cretinous man-baby can invalidate our existence with the stroke of a pen.
We are still here. We have always been here. And we are way too hot to cancel.
Hey babes. I am one of those dangerous transsexuals you’ve been hearing so much slander about. And I have a new video I made with my dear mother Miss Evangeline aka @ltdnyc . It’s called “Every Breath I Take is a Revolution” and we shot the first part before I had my FFS and the second part afterward. Come out and see it and hang out with us at @lipsnyc Lips Drag Restaurant this Thursday night.
The song was produced by my friend @philcinstagram in our days with @radicalartists . And I’m deeply grateful to him, and to @coopgiants for executive producing this jam, to @dylovemusic for her glorious backing vocals, and to @jrpriceless5eva for helping behind the scenes with his boundless energy.
So we saw Ballroom Cats and it slayed us all. Loved every second of this gorgeous show. Thank you so much @eastriverferryman for thinking of me with the extra ticket!!
