#This giant baobab tree at the Feather Leaf Inn is deeply rooted and full of stories carried across the ocean centuries ago.
Known as the Tree of Life, the Baobab is believed to have arrived from Africa at the same time the colonialists were transporting enslaved people to the Caribbean. This tree, a witness tree, is listed with the Black Heritage Tree Project and has been named in honor of Moses Robert, an enslaved person that was a leader in the emancipation movement of 1748.
Long before this place became a sanctuary for rest and connection, Butler Bay was a sugar plantation in the 1700s. Through changing times, crashing waves, and generations of lives passing beneath its branches, this majestic tree remained. Quietly witnessing history. Quietly holding memory.
Today, this sacred tree continues to be one of the soulful treasures of the Feather Leaf Inn as a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and deep connection to the earth. Its presence invites stillness. Reflection. Gratitude.
A reminder that roots run deep, that healing lives in nature, and that even after the longest journeys, life continues to grow toward the light.
Whether you arrive seeking rest, inspiration, or simply a moment of peace, the Baobab stands here waiting⌠grounded, resilient, and full of stories still carried by the wind.

Itâs VI History Month!
Much of history is overlooked because it was passed down through oral traditions rather than written records.
Colonization decimated Indigenous populations in the USVI, but their influence is found in Caribbean language, food, agriculture, traditions and direct descendants living on today.
Legacy is not what remains untouched; legacy is what survives by becoming what follows. If you look around, itâs deeply rooted in the islandâs identity, and its influence continues today.
Read these 9 Must-Know Facts About St. Croixâs Indigenous Roots in the comments.
Join us for a 6-day immersive retreat in St. Croix.
