𧧠#LunarNewYear is right around the corner!
For many, #LNY is the season to share auspicious gifts like mandarins, tangerines and pomelos that symbolize good fortune for the year ahead.
If you plan to share some π #FloridaSunshine with your out-of-state loved ones, remember Florida is under statewide quarantine to prevent the spread of citrus pests and diseases.
Celebrate safely and protect #Florida and US Agriculture by:
π΄ Enjoying fruit grown and sold locally
π΄ Avoid bringing backyard citrus across state or country lines
π΄ Purchasing commercially packed citrus from approved/compliant packinghouses.
For more information on regulations surrounding moving citrus, contact our CHRP offices through the link in bio!

π£ Our Caribbean Fruit Fly Protocol Program has expanded our certification services to northwest Florida!
This program facilitates the out-of-state export of #FreshFromFlorida π citrus, π peaches and βοΈ carambola to countries and states with established regulations to prevent the introduction of the Caribbean fruit fly (Anastrepha suspensa).
For our Division to certify these commodities as fly-free and export-ready, they must be harvested from designated areas that fulfill management requirements designed to exclude the πͺ° pest. Additionally, Division staff routinely conduct monitoring of traps, harvesting, packinghouses and bait spray applications during the harvest season.
Our Caribbean Fruit Fly Protocol Program office compiles this information and distributes reports to all participants, importing areas and stakeholders.
We are proud to support our stateβs emerging cold-hardy #FLCitrus industry by facilitating access to out-of-state markets and to share a taste of βοΈ #FloridaSunshine!

π #ICYMI, the cold weather is causing #invasive iguanas in South Florida to freeze in place β making them easy to spot and collect!
On the other hand, π tiny invaders like invasive arthropods and plant pests can be smaller than your fingertip, and remain difficult to identify year-round.
If you've seen an insect or pest you suspect is an invasive species, you can βοΈ submit a physical sample or πΈ snap a picture and send it over for identification.

ποΈ When you sing your favorite C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E-S-O-N-G this #FloridaFall, make sure to source your πͺ΅ firewood locally & burn it all on-site!
Why? π Moving firewood across long distances risks transporting pests and diseases that have the potential to devastate our forests and cost huge sums to control.
When in doubt, look forβa heat-treatment label from your state's department of agriculture or a stamp from the USDA-APHIS on the label β this ensures the wood you are purchasing has been heated to a π‘οΈ high-enough temperature to kill pests and pathogens of concern.

π Are you facing an infestation of air potato vines (Dioscorea bulbifera L.) on your property? Taking immediate action now can reduce its severity next year!
π Around this time of the year, air potato vine leaves begin to yellow and then brown β eventually leading to die back in the winter. If you notice any air potatoes either sprouting from the vine or scattered on the ground, ποΈ collect and properly dispose of them! Ensure you are removing the entire tuber, as even a small piece can regrow.
Collected bulbils should be frozen or burned to prevent sprouting before disposal. Effective management can reduce the number of new air potato sprouts next season and the vine's potential to spread to other areas!
Learn more about our air potato vine program through our link in bio.
In observance of Veterans Day, FDACS offices statewide will closed on Tuesday, November 11th. πΊπΈ
