had the absolute pleasure of visiting the v&a archives at the weekend - it was such a treat to take out some old manuscripts (ranging from 200-900 years old!) and get a proper close look at the intricacy of these masterful works. got a bit of lettering study in during the appointment and took away some serious inspiration for embellishment, form and technique.
some of the detail and just how fine the illustrations were blew my mind, and my thoughts were definitely provoked on the importance of intricacy, ornamentation and beauty in the face of austerity.
from retellings of religious stories to illuminated scriptures, i am in awe of devotional art - devotional not just in a religious capacity but also to the craft, the sheer volume of hours spent honing the ability to create these beautiful pieces.

reflecting on the past couple months, with this year representing a significant closing of chapters and many new beginnings.

As the horrific violence has been unfolding in Palestine, Congo, Tigray and Sudan we are seeing first hand that the structures in place to prevent crimes against humanity are proving themselves to be biased and untrustworthy.
Israelās abhorrent war crimes and the complicity across the world have been truly heart wrenching to witness. Watching āourā government unashamedly support the genocide and destruction of an entire people and all for what? Capital greed.
The UK is really showing its colours with this one - laying on the table just how present and alive its own colonialist values are (in case we all needed proof).
It feels like the government and the people have never been further apart, but their actions DONāT represent us and itās increasingly important that we keep marching, boycotting and emailing MPs, calling for an end to colonialist and imperialist regimes worldwide.
It was, is, and always will be: SAOIRSE DON PHALAISTĆN! šµšø
