PINCH ME 😭 Normally unfazed by celebrities but Mother @madonna has just graced us with her presence on IG and I need to keep this as my forever memory - fangirling HARD.
Triggering childhood memories growing up as a teenager in Singapore I had her True Blue poster on my wall. My first attempt at fashion expression was a denim jacket piled with safety pins, layers of crucifix necklaces and ripped leggings. I wanted to be like Madonna but most importantly embody her fearless spirit.
My bff’s mom at Nanyang Primary School forbid her from hanging out with me because I dressed like a BAD GIRL ☠️. In high school my neighbor hollered over the walls of her home asking if I thought I was Madonna whenever friends came over for rowdy house parties. Anything associated with Madonna was considered rebellious in sterile 🇸🇬 .
Madonna influenced and defined an era. Her fearlessness opened doors for individuality and changed cultural norms. She was an early champion for women empowerment. A true catalyst for change.
A fashion provocateur she expressed her views via thought provoking looks. A huge part and parcel of my fashion journey up to adulthood.
Fast forward to my fashion career @theclique.hk deeply humbled and honored to work on projects creating looks for her as the host of Met Gala 2019, Eurovision 2019, Halloween 2022 and her 63rd birthday celebration. Who would have thought an Indonesian accessories designer @rinaldyyunardiofficial would have an opportunity to adorn the fabulous Queen of Pop. A surreal dream come true and the only time I cried dressing a celebrity.
Thank you Queen M, you really made my day. You are truly an inspiration. If you ever read this I want you to know you have deeply influenced my life.
