Miami Vice was my absolute FAVORITE show as a kid. I wanted to be Gina, marry Crockett and live on the beach. It must be the genesis of my love of TV and fashion and ultimately costume design since the pastel suits and Italian designer labels were such a huge part of the storytelling. So, pitching, reporting and writing this 40th anniversary (!!!) oral history of #miamivice fashion for @hollywoodreporter may be the pinnacle of my personal and professional existence. No exaggeration. I mean, I zoomed with MICHAEL MANN for almost hour! I may have blacked out, and he was truly lovely.
I also played detective to track down sources, including season 1 costume designer Jodie Tillen (thank you @mandiline for connecting me via season 4 designer Eduardo Castro, who’s so fun.) And thank you @mjonf for continuing the pastel legacy, and my editor @degenpener (Yes, I am holding a mojito, which is from the 2006 movie but Colin Farrell never would have told Gong Li he’s a “fiend for mojitos” without the show.)🔗 to the longer version in my bio and stories 🌴

Thank you @angryasianman@originalspin@wongfuphil for the opportunity to contribute to this illuminating, insightful, heartwarmingly nostalgic and just fun book. I loved writing about three decades of Asian American trailblazers making an impact through fashion, from design to styling to media. (My dad is even excited, can’t you tell?) The official March 1 release is a week out but preorder at @riseaabook

Because no matter how hard Margo tries not to become her mother… she kind of already is.

In ‘The Madison,’ costume designer Emma Potter charts Michelle Pfeiffer’s character’s emotional journey to finding a home in Montana through her wardrobe, but at the beginning of the series, her outfits instantly mark her as an outsider. Potter imagines Stacy threw her NYC go-tos—such as a Loro Piana trench and white Gucci loafers—in her silver Rimowa suitcase, not knowing how long she’d be in the Montana wilderness.
