merry december!!! @roxperezzz @phoebepoopcherry and I have done a little smth this Christmas— MATCHES is a retelling of the Little Match Girl, following one man’s desperate act of redemption amid the hubbub of New Year’s Eve. There will be just 100 copies of Matches, and every single cent we make from this will go to CHARIS, in support of disaster relief efforts.  A lot has happened around the world this year; the recent tropical storms alone have caused flooding and landslides all across Asia. We're lucky to be sheltered in Singapore, I think it'll be nice to share a bit of that luck.  For now, these will be available 13/14 Dec at the Curious Corner market run by my mad talented friends @helloantinormal , featuring more mad talented people. If there's more left after the market... I'll see where else I can put Matches lol. Hit me up if you own a bookshop??? sorry my caption always so long la

ok pardon my unpressed plebeian sheets but I wanted to share some news: a short piece I've written has been printed in the Nov run of @mekongreview f2: I purchased my first copy of Mekong Review back in 2021 at Kinokuniya and consumed the whole thing on the train ride home. I hadn't written anything at that point but I thought, damn wouldn't it be cool to be a part of this? f3: this issue happens to be their 10th anniversary. There's a review of Death Row Literature (a collection of poems by Pannir Selvam Pranthaman who was hanged just last month). There's a discussion on the conservative censorship of Tash Aw's The South (Booker Prize longlister, mind you) in the author's home country. There's an interview with Leila de Lima. There's a lot to be curious about. Big thanks to @kixes for reading then printing Black Chicken Soup.  You can find this and past issues at the link in my bio, and there's a full list of their stockists online (incl. bookbar, wardah, big bois like kino, whsmith, allscript etc.)

Launch of How to Love the Sun by @fatser 13 Sep 7.30pm at @bookbarsg A story about playing with fire, set in a world where, like sweat and gin, Chinese myths mingle with motels and hitmen “He had been burned and blistered, and his spine had never curved enough for him to hold his chin up and look it in the eye. But the sun rose and fell, gave and took, even if it was cruel every so often. One sun was already too much for the world.” Justina Lim explores the extremity of human nature: guilt, desperation, obsession. By day, she crafts words that sell in advertising and marketing; by night, she writes to understand the things that refuse to be sold. Justina is also a volunteer English tutor for lesser-privileged communities in Singapore.

LORD HAVE MERCY I CAN’T FIT MY PANTS ANYMORE: Europe edition Part One: Paris 1-3. Freddy’s. Special mention to their lamb belly and hummus! Not too lamb-y, texturally great together, flavours were bomb. 4-5. Le Clown Bar. Their monkfish and carrot puree dish, as what Gen Z’s say, “altered my brain chemistry”. Hands down THE BEST dish of the trip. 6-7. Bouillon Pigalle. Simple french food perfected. 8. Folderol’s selection of wine and ice cream! Too bad this was my only photo of our trip down there. We found where the cool kids hung out LOL Pro tip: get their olive oil ice cream! No regrets! 9. Quinsou’s lobster in roselle pickled beetroot. Surprising combination, very clean on the palette. 10. Mamiche. Everything we bought was immaculate!! Best croissants we’ve tried in Paris!
