Our Terrain. You were my baby. The first short documentary I was able to bring across the finish line as a director. I’m so grateful for the experience of making this film, which is now available online for everyone to watch. There is a big list of people to thank. First off - Shalini, Chuck, Lisa, Hayden, and the entire @terraintrailrunners_stl - for allowing me to step into your lives and document the race. @r.meyer_ @fathomstudios - for saying yes to a crazy idea and giving your full support for the whole journey. @rickieross5 @alex.fagin @samuelpletsgo - the OG crew who said yeah let’s hike around with big cameras and stand for hours in the freezing rain all night to tell this story. @wildandcurious @bman_brooks and Walter Wimmer-Brown for jumping in on camera and lighting support to make this project look extra nice. @adamlambmusic @clarkgriffiths @danedickmann - Members of our post team who dedicated time and talent to bring it all together. The many friends and colleagues who watched cuts and gave feedback and lifted me up when I fell into the dark hole of “will this film ever be done, let alone good?” - you know who you are - and I wouldn’t be on this side without you. @trailfilmfest - for providing grant funding to help us tell this story. Tonight is the last night to catch Our Terrain in theaters before it’s released online. Feeling some kind of way about the film being near the end of its run. A lot of gratitude for all the theaters and rooms and screens where people have been able to experience this story. There’s nothing like the shared experience of watching a film. Our Terrain is coming back to the big screen November 13th at 7pm at MX Theater and Bar! We’re so delighted to be part of the @stlfilmfest lineup this year, and we hope you’ll come out to see the film! Synopsis: Missouri isn’t a place people think of when they think of ultra running. But it’s here in the rolling hills and chunky karst terrain where race director Shalini Bhajjan has built Terrain Trail Runners, a community of long distance ultra trail runners. On April 15th, 2023, three members of this community set out to run 100 miles through Ozark Foothills in Wildwood, MO. What started out as a beautiful day quickly turned into a weather nightmare when a tornado touched down 10 minutes from where the race was being hosted. Tough calls were made and limits were tested, ending in a finish that no one saw coming. It’s hard work to make a film, and it’s even harder to get it in front of an audience.
