“I had been looking at NYACC’s adoption listings off and on over the last several months. The main things I was hoping for with a new companion were a sweet, friendly personality, a good walker, and a cuddler. Bingley has been all that and more!! We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other, and I could not be happier. I renamed him Bingley after a character in the novel Pride & Prejudice because of their similarly happy personalities.
Bingley was a stray with no history and was very underweight. I don’t know how or why he ended up on the street, but I’m so happy to give him a new home and lots of love! He’s very friendly with new people and other dogs, he’s house trained, and already knew many commands in Spanish, so we’ve been doing bilingual training. He is up to a healthy weight now and doing wonderfully! He is now best friends with my roommate’s dog, Orion, who is a German Australian Shepherd mix. Bingley’s favorite activities include long walks, snuggling, giving kisses, and playing with his new squirrel plushie.”

It’s been six months since Cookie passed away and I’ve adopted a new friend! No name yet, but he’s a huge sweetheart and we are getting along very well!
Step by step, block by block, leaf by leaf, drop by drop. The seasons changed, the months passed, suddenly a new year is right around the corner. Everything is different and yet everything is the same. My Cookie Monster pup by my side, the only consistent thing to make moment by moment in a new city livable. If you wonder if I miss you? The answer is yes. The answer will always be yes.
My heart aches for people, love, and experiences I used to know. It also aches for the ones I have never known, but know could be possible. How is it that so many years of my life have passed and there’s still so much I wish I could know and understand and feel and experience?
And so the search continues for what makes one happiest above all else, knowing that there are challenges ahead, internal and external, that will come to do everything to keep happiness from being attainable. I have often been my own worst enemy in preventing my own happiness, the sort of lasting contentment that sustains a person from day to day, step by step, season to season, year to year. How can I make the coming year full of things that help move me forward instead of hinder me? Even when I feel like I don’t deserve it? Even when I feel like I deserve nothing in life at all, even existence itself.
