🌱 Field Trip to Farm Zero @farmzerochicago 🌱
The kids got to experience something insanely cool - a visit to Chicago’s first downtown vertical farm!
Russ and his team had 4 stations for the kids to visit to learn about how their crops go from seeds to packaged for consumers.
We discussed sustainability, where food comes from, how it gets around.
Plus, the kids got to taste tests wasabi, sunflower, arugula, pea shoots and basil.
Ask your Junior Chef all about microgreens (hint: they are more nutrient dense than their fully grown counterparts!) 💚
Check them out today- you can even shop their site to receive your own greens!

Not your typical farm, and not your typical tour. 🌱 Our Energy & Sustainability Committee and members got an inside look at Farm Zero, a vertical farm operating inside a downtown high-rise. With a mission to reduce food miles, increase food security, and support a healthier urban food system, Farm Zero grows fresh produce year-round with minimal environmental impact. Thanks to Farm Zero for giving us a firsthand look at the future of sustainable agriculture in our cities!
From farm to kitchen in just 45 minutes 🌱🏙️
At FARMZER0, we’re redefining what ‘fresh’ means, harvesting and delivering premium microgreens from our downtown Chicago office building to @chefsawyer

🏙️🏢It turns out skyscrapers aren't just for offices, hotels, and residences—they can also be home to farms!👨🌾🏙️
Last week, Illinois Green took a tour of FARMZER0's vertical agriculture facility in the heart of Chicago's Loop. FARMZERO is taking an innovative approach to agricultural sustainability by converting vacant office space into functional urban farms. With their operation located in the center of Chicago's population, they're able to slash the amount of miles your food travels to reach your plate.
Glad I got a taste, literally and figuratively, of the impactful work FARMZER0 (@farmzerochicago ) is doing to bring fresh, sustainable produce to local businesses while supporting the environment and economy. They’re helping create a more resilient and healthy food system for Chicago and beyond by growing close to consumers and ensuring the freshest produce with the lowest environmental footprint.
I recently visited @farmzerochicago , where CEO Russell Steinberg and his team are creatively using vacant downtown office space to grow fresh, nutrient-packed microgreens. Their commitment to sustainability and supporting Illinois’ local economy is making a positive impact on both people and the planet.
