I made this zine as an example for my “Who Are We Really?” Zine Workshop for #nationalheritageweek using materials from Kilrush Historical Society and the local Kilrush Library to delve into this year’s theme of exploring our foundations.
As an immigrant and a blow-in, I lack deep knowledge about not only Kilrush but Ireland writ large, and my entire 10 years here has been a crash course on what it means to be Irish, what the story is, really—the one being told over and over—800 years, and all that.
Of course I bring with me the history of another place, and a perspective formed by that history, so I was delighted when my workshop proposal was accepted in spite of the fact of my difference, my non-heritage.
To prepare for the workshop, I went to the library’s reference section and found out all I could about the history of this little town—the Vandeleurs, the Cathach of Scattery Island (banished by St. Senan), the railway, the port, the enlistments during the First World War, the fact that its name translates from Irish to mean “church of the woods.”
None of this information qualified me as anything near an expert, but it did give a sliver of insight into the place. And with the generous use of archival photos from the Kilrush Historical Society, I had more than enough material for Sunday’s zinesters to make their own works about the place, or even about their place in it. Not just Kilrush, but Ireland. And also time. Their place in the here and now as shaped by the ever growing then.
I’m grateful to @silverwoodevents for inviting me to participate in this year’s national heritage week, and to @vandeleurwalledgarden for giving me a space to host, and to both of them for promoting the workshop so thoroughly.

Wow, I can’t believe this time last week we were opening the doors of St. John’s Pavilion for year 2 of @limerickzinefest 📖✨
Echoing Caoilfhinn’s post from last year, at the forefront of everything I feel is a sea of gratitude:
For my fellow organizers @caoilfhinnart and @prodmankyy for their commitment, drive, and heart—without whom LZF wouldn’t even exist.
For the talented zinesters who came to table at the fest who consistently blow me away with their passion and dedication // check out LZF’s vendor posts to follow your faves!
For our workshop hosts @annaxxoleary and @hanaflammingo // thanks for putting on some rockin’ workshops that got people buzzin’ for the form!
For our panelists @billy.kenrick@kimrcrowley@katemoorewrites // thanks for talking to us about your work and inspiring everyone in that room!
For our unsung heroes—friends, partners, parents who do all the little last minute odd jobs to keep things running ASAP aka “as smooth as possible!”
And of course, for you! Yes, you—you who are reading this post, who maybe came to the fest (as a visitor, or a vendor) and were part of this joyous, weird little celebration of human creativity and connection. Thank you. You put the “u” in community, so ya do.
Can’t wait for next year.✨🙏💖🙏✨

Had such a great time this Tuesday at @thelibertycork for an evening of cocktails and collage!
Big shout out to the Liberty for taking a chance on a weird, wholesome little workshop in their beautiful event space (itself just brimming with fun, evocative details of its own)! And, a big shout out to Paula on the bar for mixing all of the wonderful drinks on the fly!
Lastly (but certainly not leastly) a big thank you to everyone who came out to collage the night away with friends old and new! It was a pleasure to host and meet each one of ye. I am always so delighted to see the work people make in these workshops, and this was no exception. I firmly believe that every single one of us is an artist, and it’s just so humbling to see the ways each of your minds and eyes express themselves on the page. Thank you for coming and making these evenings what they are!
The rebel county certainly captured a little piece of my heart this week!🙏😊💖✨
Stay tuned for more events coming this summer!

💸FEBRULLAGE DAY 24: LOST💸
I’ve been looking at this red white and blue rattler wrapped around Lady Liberty in my collage pile for the last 2-3 years (originally clipped from a Playboy Book), never knowing quite what to do with her.
Last week, I came upon this dime in pieces in a Childcraft encyclopedia from the 60s and these pages came together when I saw today’s prompt: “lost.”
I tend not to make posts about current world or political events here, because:
1.) This is a business page, and you didn’t come here for my beliefs.
2.) Nuance is difficult, anger is easy, and social media is already playing host to a pointless uncivil war between us when we don’t happen to 100% agree with each other. An aspect of our behavior born out of our use of these little rectangles as our primary mode of communication with each other. It’s a warped mirror, etc.
All that said, it’s hard to watch what’s happening in my homeland. It’s true that it’s been a long time since I’ve lived in the United States, but it is the place I was born and the place I called home for 31 years.
And watching an American president flout the rule of law and consolidate power to enrich the wealth of corporate enterprise by privatizing the government is distressing to me, no matter how cool I try to play it. Because it is beyond the pale. It leaves me feeling lost and frightened for what’s to come, if it continues. And if this is how I feel here, I can’t imagine what it’s like to live it.
I wake up heartbroken at the mess we’ve found ourselves in, followed by the feeling that I have no right to be. Because I don’t have to live it. I don’t have to go through the work of untangling the threads that got us here. Because I don’t live there anymore.
I can’t move the needle on a sea of frightened hearts with this little picture, or on a handful of hungry hearts that seemingly crave nothing but wealth and power. But I can make my little pictures nonetheless, and sit with my heart as it breaks.

“Humpty Dumpty,” 2025
@februllage Day 23: “Tapestry”
I made this little piece today while taking a break from a screen-heavy project. I already had the fragmented skull cut out, it’s one of those bits that I’ve loved for a long time and regarded as so perfect I didn’t know how to augment it, to make it into a full image in combination with other elements.
While I was looking for something else in my folders of bits, I found these embroidery patterns again, and knew just what I wanted to do with them.
So, I arranged my bits and transfer papers, covered them with a Teflon sheet, and heated up my iron. Once I had the patterns ironed down, I glued the skull and used the now faded transfer paper as stencils on magazine bits of “fabric”, so I could make the flowers look like little sewn pieces, to go with today’s theme of “tapestry”🪡🧵
There’s something hopeful about this image to me, something about the persistence of life, just going on and growing through the waves of pain and breaking.
Also, the song I put on this post is Aimee Mann’s “Humpty Dumpty” the first track from her 2002 album “Lost in Space.” It’s great and you should give it a spin. #justiceforaimeemann
