At a recent Meet the Fleet event ⚓️, Executive Director Jeni Wheeler shared how locally harvested conch 🐚 is a highly nutritious, protein-rich seafood that’s often exported overseas 🌍. It’s a powerful opportunity to nourish our own communities, support local fishermen 🎣, and reduce waste ♻️—shifting the focus from food insecurity to long-term nutritional security 🌱.
At Family Table Collaborative, we provide healthy, prepared meals to those in need—because healthy people build healthy communities ❤️. With the help of 500+ volunteers 🙌, we transform fresh produce into meals, rescue food, and educate the community. To date, we’ve served 200,000+ meals 🍽️ and rescued over 1.25 million pounds of food 🥕📦
A wonderful evening at Meet the Fleet, presented by the Fisherman’s Alliance ⚓️✨
It was an inspiring night as the community came together to learn more about our local conch fishery 🐚. Speakers Ray Rowell, John Soposki, and Jake Angelo shared their insights, while guests enjoyed a delicious conch tasting prepared by Jeni Wheeler of the Family Table Collaborative 🍽️.
Guests mingled over light bites from Chatham Bars Inn and local beer from Devil’s Purse 🍺, celebrating our coastal heritage and the flavors of the sea 🌊. We also learned that locally harvested conch is an excellent source of protein 💪—yet much of it is shipped overseas, when it’s something we should be enjoying right here at home 🇺🇸.
Stay tuned for more from Jeni on the health benefits of conch, how to prepare it with delicious recipes, and the mission behind the Family Table Collaborative in an upcoming post!
This Friday✨✨ One night. One unforgettable table.

A chef shaped by the world, now defining a kitchen on Cape Cod. 🌊🍽️
Pain D’Avignon celebrates one year with Executive Chef Jorge Urbani Lugo with a one-night-only, six-course collaborative dinner — a menu inspired by global travels and rooted in Cape Cod’s incredible local bounty.
From Wellfleet oysters to Ibérico pork, each dish tells a story of place, people, and passion. Joined by some of the region’s most celebrated chefs and world-class wine partners, this is more than a dinner — it’s a celebration of craft, collaboration, and community.
✨ Proceeds support the Family Table Collaborative of Cape Cod.

Watching Tianna Esperanza perform at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater felt a lot like walking into a great kitchen before service — you immediately recognize when someone has their mise en place together. Every note, every pause, every movement on stage felt intentional, calm, and ready. After spending a week listening to her album Terror, hearing songs like Lewis, Deadbeat Dad, Get You a New Attitude, and especially Granada live made it clear: she knows exactly where she’s going as an artist. What’s even more inspiring is that she wants her community on Cape Cod to be part of that journey. Sitting there with people like Jeni Wheeler, Mary O’Keeffe, Mario and Priscilla Mariani, and Chef Jorge Lugo, it felt like we were watching someone on the verge of something big — not just a performer, but a creative force. Tianna Esperanza is ready to blow up, and the best part is she’s bringing her community along for the ride. In my book, that makes her a hero — a kind of artistic avenger stepping into the world with purpose.

Frog Dream 🐸🌿
Thirty-six by thirty-six inches of oil and mixed media on stretched canvas. I chipped away at this thing for most of 2025. It’s hanging now at the Pop-Up Tavern at the Family Table Collaborative Community Kitchen on Route 28 in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
I call it Frog Dream.
It’s vines, scratches, movement, chaos trying to behave itself. A little abstract, a little figurative—kind of like a kitchen on a Saturday night. Tickets flying, pans screaming, cooks moving like jazz musicians who haven’t slept enough but somehow still hit the note.
I spent 27 years in the hospitality industry. Long nights, sharp knives, burned fingertips, and the strange magic that happens when people gather around food. This painting is my way of translating that energy—the beautiful mess of it—onto canvas.
Because here’s the thing…
A chef builds something out of nothing. Heat, timing, instinct, scars, memory. It disappears the moment it’s served.
So I’ll ask you the same question I’ve been thinking about while painting this:
Is a chef an artist? Or just a craftsperson chasing the perfect plate?
Drop your thoughts in the comments. I’m curious where people land on this.
