Circular Souvenirs, part of VOLUME’s contribution to the Biennale Architettura 2025, reconsiders one of tourism’s most ubiquitous artifacts, the souvenir. Violette Schönberger (@violetteschonberger ) of FALSEWORK (@falsework.eu ) presents their contribution: Resent Cards / Nuovi Ricordi! Resent Cards reintroduces lapsed mementoes into the souvenir cycle. Vintage postcards, washed up on flea markets after being sent to friends and loved ones many decades ago, are brought back to Venice and prepped for another departure – this time carrying a hastily scribbled yet heartfelt message even before they are purchased. As a growing collection of resent cards it also reflects on the long-standing tradition of tourism in Venice. All one has to do is to replace the address on the back of the card. Resent Cards also features an investigative research effort with a website showing the overview of all the found cards, and their location. The souvenirs are available in several souvenir stores around Venice, the VOLUME folly in the Giardini and in our online shop (link in bio). Bursting Bubbles, VOLUME’s contribution to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, challenges La Biennale di Venezia’s echo chamber and encourages connecting architectural discourse with society at large. The presentation features three interconnected initiatives: Circular Souvenirs, Bursting Bubbles Conversations, and a pilot for The Ultimate Companion to the Biennale Architettura 2025. During the VOLUME 67 launch on June 26th, you will be able to play FALSEWORK‘s Urban Design Tarot - incense not included. 🃏 What to expect? “Spatial design is a complex and, to some extent, mysterious activity”, Tim Peeters (@tim__peeters ) of FALSEWORK (@falsework.eu ) explains. “Results oftentimes have to be pried from an opaque tangle of interests, actors, preconditions and ambitions. Attempts at managing complexity, which inevitably involve enormous amounts of meetings and e-mails, may indeed lead to greater clarity—but also extinguish the spark that guides us through the swamp of dullness. Urban Tarot reignites that spark. It condenses the discourse of city development into 78 playing cards—actors, tools, concepts, themes. We are very excited for the Rotterdam book launch of ‘Paradijs van imperfectie’ at @school_for_the_city ! Violette Schönberger’s recently published essay collection offers a blend of professional insights and personal experiences. Through her writing, @violetteschonberger delves into the beauty of the imperfect city, exploring its social and cultural impact. During this event, Violette will discuss her fascination with the imperfect city together with urban planner @jeroenvandam . While Violette writes about urban development safely from behind her desk, Jeroen takes a more hands-on approach, exploring the city’s fringes and capturing stunning photos of its raw, unpolished areas. Together, they’ll discuss whether these unique places can be designed or if the pursuit of imperfection is itself a form of decadence. Op dinsdag 9 april wordt ‘Paradijs van imperfectie’, de essaybundel van @violetteschonberger , gelanceerd bij @pakhuisdezwijger 📚 Violette is architect en stedenbouwkundige en werkte ze als ontwerper voor verschillende architectenbureaus en voor de gemeente Rotterdam. Momenteel vormt ze samen met Tim Peeters kritisch ontwerpbureau FALSEWORK. Violette gaf les aan de KULeuven en is gastdocent aan de Rotterdamse Academie van Bouwkunst. Ze schrijft columns over architectuur en stedenbouw op haar eigen platform www.fromscratch.work en voor @architectenweb en andere vakmedia. In 2019 won haar essay ‘Paradijs van imperfectie’ de Geert Bekaertprijs voor de architectuurkritiek. Tijdens de lancering gaat Violette onder leiding van Susanne Heering in gesprek met verschillende gasten, onder wie @sannevanmanen (@platformwoonopgave , @mvrdv ), @jolijnvalk (@urbanechoes.nl ) en Pieter Hoexum (zelfstandig auteur). Rotterdam Garment District is een onderzoek naar de modesector in Rotterdam Noord, en een verkenning van de organisatie van een (duurzame) modeketen. Naast een kaart en een organogram ontwikkelden we ook een modulair meubelsysteem, dat op alle plekken binnen het organogram kan worden ingezet. De resultaten van het onderzoek zijn t/m 11 oktober 2023 te zien op de Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, en verhuizen daarna naar @dewasserij . De meubels werden ontwikkeld in samenwerking met @bertjan1985 van Bovrie.
