On October 11th, Henrico County Police carried out a targeted enforcement action against our host venue, Powers BMX Shop, threatening to arrest the owner if gatherings over 50 people continued, despite the event’s full compliance with all required permitting and safety regulations. This kind of selective enforcement against independent cultural spaces is discouraging and represents an unnecessary disruption to a lawful community event. Given the festival’s scale and the limited time available, securing a suitable replacement venue on such short notice was not feasible. To ensure the safety of our artists, attendees, and partners, and to preserve the integrity of the event, we have chosen to relocate rather than risk further interference. The Southern Gothic Festival will now take place in March 2026. To honor our community and sustain the momentum of this work, we will be hosting an events for ticket holders and community at Conex, a new venue opening in Richmond’s Carver neighborhood and Ember, which we will be releasing information about shortly. We are grateful for your patience and
understanding, as we adapt under pressure and remain committed to presenting the
festival in its fullest form.
