I am returning to Northeast China next week to participate in the research residency program, "Changbai Spring 2026: Idea of the North," facilitated by North East Asia Archive. --- The Changbai Spring program, based on the iconic Changbai Mountain in Northeast Asia, welcomes artists and researchers from around the world, particularly those from high latitudes, to visit Northeast China in 2026 for ten days of workshops, creating and sharing diverse “Ideas of North.” The field trip in 2026 will primarily be conducted in Jilin and Heilongjiang Provinces, including Mohe Beiji Village, China’s northernmost point. The research will focus on the relationship between climate, soil, and agriculture; the living spaces and autonomous experiments of indigenous and immigrant communities; and the history of borders and geopolitical conflict. The project is conceived by OU Ning and LI Jiaqi, with invited participants including DONG Bingfeng, HE Yining, LIU Chuang, Tessa MORRIS-SUZUKI, Kyong PARK, PI Li, Leandro PISANO, SHU Qun, SUN Xun, WANG Hongzhe, ZHAO Zhi, ZHOU Feifei, among others. @_naaa_official

My short film, Landscape Psychosis (2026) will screen ahead of Rhayne Vermette’s Levers (2025) next Thursday, May 21st at Chicago Filmmakers as part of the Tone Glow Film Festival. I traveled the Mongolian steppe in April 2025 to experience the sandstorms that drift hwang sa (white yellow dust) from the Gobi desert to Korea every spring. I navigated Soviet military ruins languishing somewhere between fossil and rubble, accompanied by a man named Ganselm seeking work as a miner. Filmed on a broken super8 camera, Landscape Psychosis is a non-narrative impression of the textures and aural environment of the shifting border between steppe and desert, winter and spring. Thank you to Joshua Minsoo Kim for including my work. Go see along with the rest of the program; some films screening for the first time in the US. Wish I could be there. I heard you get to blast cigs at the final screening. Links in bio @toneglow
