I think my first ever encounter with someone stepping into our sport trying to add value was when I was 14 years old and watched Mike Kidd walk into a rodeo office of a high school rodeo. He was polishing up the production, hustling for sponsors and prizes for the kids and making everyone step up their game for us to have something worth running at.
I praise his daughter Tammy Kidd constantly and talk about attending "Tammy races" because of the same vine that she brings to the table. The vibe is just right.
Watching Mike step up to the plate and push our sport to be better influenced my life greatly. I wanted so badly to be someone like that when I grew up. Mike, I just heard you went to meet Jesus tonight. You leave behind a family that loves you, but outside your immense talents and influence on two wheels - we in the horse community feel your influence over our sport immensely.
Thank you for your passion. Thank you for your family. Thank you for every hug and high five when I saw you. Fly high!
