Spring is here and Natural Dye Revive is open.🌱
This is our first seasonal, community natural dye service in collaboration with @bushwoodtailorsopportunityshop in downtown New Bedford. Bring us your loved garments and we will revitalize them with Myrobalan, a healing plant dye we’re calling Spring Harvest.
Warm yellow. Earthy gold. A quiet transformation service that results in unique tones depending on your specific items.
Drop off at the OPP SHOP now between April 11th. Natural fibers only (cotton, linen, silk, hemp). Choose an organic solid or tie-dye. Pick up ready by May 11th.

Final(ish) steps of locally dyeing these vintage @levis with black walnuts collected off the sidewalk on Kempton Street, New Bedford. The city is a garden.
Not captured for context: 2 days of simmering, slowly extracting color, and letting the garment soak on and off low heat. Time of course, is the most valuable ingredient and privilege.

I was recently asked why I dye things, and here’s my answer:
I dye things because I don’t know how not to.
When I walk outside, I see plants and I immediately wonder what color they would give. When I thrift and find a beautiful garment with some imperfections, I think “this could be brought back to life.” The world rearranged itself for me the moment I put my hands in a dye pot for the first time. I haven’t seen it the same way since.
And I don’t want to.

When the outside noise tells you to speed up, it’s okay to rebel and slow down.
Garden to garment.
Color as memory and connection to place, plants, and the privilege of being.
From garden to garment.

Bringing the practice of an organic indigo vat to 8th graders @nativitynewbedford 🌀
The boys experienced the slow practice of successfully dyeing their own t-shirts and displayed immense patience and respect along the way. Many hands were inside the vat, and we were able to complete the project during an art block. 🙏🏽
Big thanks to @hileezy@guzmanaart@linguicaking for making it all happen.
