And here it is. Your first look at the friendly spike in Coronadoβs punchbowl.β
β
Baby Grand (@babygrandcrowncity ). Opening May 14.β
β
From the maximalist art nerds of CH Projects. They took an old, unloved motor lodge and turned it into another mystical play place with private lagoons and oysters, and fire and mirrored walls and clamshell beds and Schumacher wallpaper, and the gentle revenge of plus-sized plant life.β
β
Itβs a 31-room hotel, restaurant, outdoor bar, and friendly social place near the Silver Strandβdesigned like someone talented and weird gave a damn. San Diegan Swizz Beatz, who produced DMX and Jay-Z, even made a custom soundtrack for it.β
β
As with all CH places, there are no TVs in the main attractions. People are the new TVs. Every βWhat the hell is that?β detail in the place has been designed to start conversations. β
β
Itβs going to have Night Hawk (@nighthawkcrowncity ), an open-fire Greek restaurant basking in that UV spectrum. Then, Fallen Empire (@fallenempireca ), a darker, moodier, emo thing with Champagne and oysters. There are statues being kidnapped by foliage. Mosaic floors. The beds in the room are iridescent clamshells. There are tents that honor the people who camped on the Coronado beaches back in the day. Thereβs even going to be a beach inside the hotel.β
β
Itβs a whole new life form in Coronado. β

Weβd like to say we built Baby Grand.
Itβs probably more accurate to say we found it, half-formed, slightly overgrown, like something that had been waiting for the right kind of bad decision.
So we left parts unfinished.
Let paths wander.
Hid things where they donβt belong.
Built a place that feels less like a hotel and more like something you stumbled intoβ¦ and arenβt totally sure you should be in.
Thereβs a story here. Weβre just not the most reliable narrators.
