Falida Nkomo ( b.xxxx), is a south African multidisciplinary artist. Nkomo employs a range of artistic mediums, including printmaking, drawing, collage, and painting, to engage with themes of cultural identity, migration, and belonging.
Through the use of flat photographic images and layering techniques, Nkomo explores the essence of family, immigration, articulating how identity is influenced by specific geographical landscapes.
In her recent display at INVESTEC Cape Town Art Fair, in one of her works she says "Return to Malawi is an archival image of my mother during her return to Malawi. The work serves as a reparative gesture toward the act of tracing home, where past images become forms of inherited memory. Through reworking the archive, I return to what is familiar while also questioning how visibility is shaped through the image’s abstract and fragmented composition.
In this work, the archive becomes a space of translation and transformation, where I use imagination to move toward one life and one personal history that cannot be fully accessed through the photograph alone."

Echoes of the in between, is centred on the conversations that each artwork is having together , a moment where there’s a crossover between different timelines all centred on family , love and friendship.
I really loved spending time listening and having different conversations with people and their thoughts on every work and it felt so warm to speak about @solaolulode and @fiyinkoko works I find them so powerful in different ways where they are both able to capture that moment and spark different conversations with their work by speaking on issues such a Queer identity and intimacy and moving to self healing and the conversations we have with friends.Just being in the space i learnt a lot and mostly for me it was just being present and looking at how art is a form of healing! and a place where certain conversations come to light❤️
Also being with @imaekpo in the space was so uplifting and felt so real.Even the curation that @imaekpo worked on came to light 🥹❤️ I just want to thank Ima so much for believing in me and pushing me to grow for these past 2 years. From talking online to finally meeting in person felt so surreal , just being with Ima in the space made me learn a lot from her and get to know who she is and to see how much love is filled inside of her!🥹❤️ I’m grateful for you @imaekpo and @galleryfresco this was @galleryfresco first art fair and I pray that may God bless and nourish this journey into one where we can have conversations to art as a way of thinking through and seeing it as a moment where we come home and reflect.💐
Also thank you to everyone that came to support and listen and have intimate moments with each work it means a lot! ❤️
Reflections on the burial, to gather in a feeling where we speak from our internal states of being. To move through the quiet moments of what it feels to mourn the eternal love🪔🥹
Moments from the Latitudes Art Fair 🌺❤️. I’m beyond grateful for this moment, it took me time to process this and I still am processing it all. I want to thank @amgprojects.art for allowing my work to breathe and speak in that moment, and for also showing with the amazing artists there.
I guess being in process is okay , because I’m trying to find the harmony and duality of it all , and to articulate from a point of childhood. And to articulate from this point for me is a natural state of being. To understanding the frequency in which you want to speak and this means letting the ideas of uncertainty , flow and to begin to be sure of the uncertainty. But to also dance in what you don’t know and know that your presence is purpose .
God bless🌾
