In partnership with our importing partner, Falcon Coffee, Coava has supported Technoserve’s Stumping Project in Ethiopia since its inception in 2022. The goal of this project is to assist Ethiopian coffee farmers by helping revitalize old stock of coffee trees, increasing diminished yields and cherry quality with modern pruning techniques. This training program has reached over 95,000 farmers across eight woredas in the Gedeo zone. With Technoserve on the ground providing this training, as well as wheelbarrows, pruning shears, and saws for implementation, farmers are seeing 2.7X more cherry only two years after implementation. This additional cherry provides much needed financial support to the rural communities of the Gedeo zone, and with the 2026 cohort including 12,000 farmers, impacts will hopefully continue at an exponential rate. We are proud to support this program, and appreciate the transparency provided by our partners in this project. Attached are the farmers we were able to support this year with our donation. With 2.3 million trees stumped, and 95,642 trained farmers, we believe in this initiative and the financial stability this program provides. A huge thank you to TechnoServe, Falcon Coffee, and all of the supporting partners of this project.

Join Dear Green and Falcon Coffee for a free sustainability event this Wednesday! 🌱☕️ Kicking off with a cupping of pre-shipment samples from Uganda, Ethiopia & Kenya, Falcon’s Head of Sustainability - Kate Monteiro, will then lead a presentation on Falcon’s supply chains. Taking a hands on approach, you’ll learn more about their experiences working with large scale roasters to the specialty community to partners at origin. Kate’s visiting us all the way from Falcon’s office in Texas, so be sure to give her a warm welcome! 👋 The Falcon team will also be showcasing their new program, Falcon on Farm, which runs test farms in Peru and Colombia in order to look at Regenerative agriculture underpinned with scientific rigor. Their hopes with Falcon on Farm is to be part of the conversation in finding solutions to the challenging environmental, social and economic conditions producers around the world are currently battling. If this sounds like a bit of you, visit the free ticket link in our bio. See you there!

🌿 PARTNER SPOTLIGHT 🌿 We’re thrilled to welcome @FalconCoffees as a community partner for the 4th Women-Powered Coffee Summit! Falcon has been one of Bean Voyage’s longest-standing partners, and we lovingly call them our coffee friends. From our earliest training programs in Costa Rica to sourcing partnerships across Costa Rica and Mexico — they’ve been part of our journey from the start. But beyond programs and projects, what connects us is a shared vision: putting producers at the center and building a value chain rooted in purpose, joy, and integrity. ☕💖 With Falcon on board, we continue weaving the industry together — with collaboration, care, and community.

We’re thrilled to team up with the incredible team at Falcon to launch an exciting new campaign! 🎉 🌱🌱 We’re raising funds for Farmer School Mexico to support producers in renovating farms and accessing the market. To celebrate this initiative, our very own Sunghee and Abhi sat down with Falcon’s Head of Specialty Sales, Line to chat about our partnership. ✨ You can watch the complete conversation on our YouTube channel (link in bio!). ☕🌱 Learn more about our collaborative project: beanvoyage.org/falcon or shoot us a DM if you have questions!

When we started our pilot project in Peru to understand coffee emissions and figure out a way to measure them, we discovered all sorts of inconsistencies and complexities in the methodologies for emission measurements. It turns out that these uncertainties can have a huge impact on the resulting emissions. As we started to add up all these uncertainties, it led us to look at net zero goals more critically. How can we reduce our emissions to zero, if we don’t really know what our baseline emissions are? We advocate for emissions reductions throughout the supply chain, however our strategies to tackle climate change are compromised if the measurements for our reduction goals are inaccurate. This paper sets out to explore and demonstrate the magnitude of these uncertainties and their potential impacts in coffee.

Origin Update: Nicaragua 🇳🇮 A cold weather front passed over the country in late March, bringing torrential rain and cool temperatures that prompted exporters to pause drying and transfer parchment to warehouses to safeguard quality. The weather caused disruptions to processing and exports for a week but normalised by the end of the month.

For the farmers of the San Lorenzo region of Colombia, coffee production is their principal way of life. Yet food insecurity and poverty are ever-present threats to communities of this area. We have joined with Kaffa roasters, Siruma and Alto Occidente on a multi-faceted project in San Lorenzo that aims to improve food security, through improving coffee quality. Together we are working to support the renovation of San Lorenzo’s coffee crops by delivering certified coffee seeds as well as transitory crop seeds such as corn and beans to be established in association with coffee in its early stages. This project aims to providing the access to the materials, infrastructure and training needed to break the cycles that keep these communities impoverished.
