Combining the mosaics is the most delicate and exhausting part of the work. As it is an abstract work I have to rely on my intuition and experience I gained the last two decades still it’s a time-consuming and at the same time rewarding when I see the results stay tuned for the result.

Crafted from over 600 handwoven palm cages by an Iraqi family, The Cage explores themes of freedom, migration, and cultural resilience. This third edition of The Cage comes to life in Riyadh thanks to the visionary work of curator Dr. Tamara Al-Chalabi, whose dedication has brought this project to new heights.

عمل تركيبي ضخم يمزج بين التراث والحرفية والرمزية، معروض الآن في مهرجان بين ثقافتين في استوديوهات ميجا بالرياض حتى 31 ديسمبر 2024.
تم تصميم القفص باستخدام أكثر من 600 قفص مصنوع يدويًا من سعف النخيل بواسطة عائلة عراقية تحترف هذه المهنة التي قاربت على الاندثار ، ويتناول مواضيع الحرية، الهجرة، والصمود الثقافي. النسخة الثالثة من القفص تُعرض الآن في الرياض بفضل العمل الملهم للقيّمة الدكتورة تمارا الجلبي برعاية وزارة الثقافة السعودية ، التي جعلت هذا المشروع يتحقق بهذه الروعة

At first glance, “Kuwait Days” feels calm and nostalgic — almost like private memories.
But the works also explore belonging, intimacy, and perception.
Fahar’s transfer of the photographs onto brass and bronze creates a unique atmosphere between memory and tension.

The Kuwait Days brings together nostalgic 1980s-style photographs of young men, printed on brass and copper plates and arranged in quiet, tension-filled compositions. The series reflects on the everyday lives of non-Kuwaiti youth, shaped by exclusion and invisible boundaries.
Through these works, Fahar Al-Salih asks: what is a motherland, and who has the right to belong? The series explores how identity, memory, and emotional attachment are formed within a system marked by separation.

Ein Abend zwischen Bild, Erinnerung und Gespräch.
Zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung sprach Yvonne Hohner mit Fahar Al-Salih über Kuwait Days, über Zugehörigkeit, Sichtbarkeit und die Frage, wie sich gesellschaftliche Strukturen in Bilder und Materialien einschreiben.
Erstmals öffentlich gezeigt: die Werkserie Kuwait Days sowie neue Mosaikarbeiten von Fahar Al-Salih.

Looking at this photo from our recent event, I feel how naturally the Kuwait Days works belong together with the mosaic pieces. They seem connected, like two pearls threaded onto the same necklace — part of one continuous body of work.
The relationship between material, color, and structure reveals something essential in my practice: each piece carries its own presence, yet together they create a larger rhythm and harmony. A language of fragmentation, ornament, and precision unfolding across different forms.
✨ Einen Grund zu feiern gibt es immer – besonders, wenn Kunst und gutes Essen zusammenkommen.
Gestern Abend durften wir gemeinsam mit kunstbegeisterten Sammler:innen, Freund:innen und Gästen eine wunderbare Ausstellungseröffnung feiern. Zwischen inspirierenden Gesprächen, besonderen Begegnungen und beeindruckender Kunst entstand ein Abend voller Atmosphäre und Genuss.
Ein besonderer Dank gilt dem Team vom @le_renard_karlsruhe , das uns kulinarisch begleitet und mit vielen Köstlichkeiten aus dem Repertoire des Restaurants verwöhnt hat. 🍷✨
