2024 self portrait recap. Pt 2
I spent most of the time in the studio trying to unlearn familiar bad habits, resulting in many “failures” and mental blocks that were good for me to face. Many of this years crop look the same as all that have come before, but I went in to the studio with a different ethos and intentions that felt fresh.
Even though I have been a photographer for 15 years I feel like I’ve only just started to truly learn the craft.
I also built a new website and read a F**k tonne of books. 📚 ☺️

Moura 3.
Self Portrait.
Looking through old photos and found this one I have never posted.
The paint patterns were based of tattoos found on ancient bog bodies.
The moura:
The fairy tales featuring the enchanted Mouras are thought to be celtic/ Pagan origin, magical maidens who guards caves, bridges, wells and treasures.
She often appears singing, combing her gold hair with a gold comb and promises to give treasures to whom sets her free by breaking her spell.
According to ancient lore, they are the souls of young maidens who were sacrificed to guard ancient treasure hordes, and can grant access to the hidden fae underworld. Modern archeologists have uncovered artifacts from burials by following the trail of moura stories.

This look was inspired by Swan maidens from Celtic mythology, otherworldly women who shapeshift with magical cloaks.

I was invited to speak to the Tafe photography students today, sharing insights into my career as a portrait photographer. It was nice to step out of the studio and reflect back on my journey and hopefully offer inspiration to those just starting out. ✨

Autumn - self portrait 🍁

Autumn is my favourite season. After the rain, the greens feel richer and the air turns chilly.
This portrait was inspired by that change, a Froudian autumnal deity, shaped by bronze earthy tones and a touch of seasonal magic.

Golden.
Self portrait.
I was looking through older files to repackage for stock, and found this image I had completely forgotten about.
Sometimes looking back to the past with fresh eyes to see anew what I missed before.
Time after time I revisit Greek mythology as a source of inspiration, the long ago stories of goddesses and powerful queens, adventurers discovering magical islands.
Playing with colour 🌈📸
Painting with light to create this new gesture stock pack with moody silhouettes, vibrant glowing figure studies, abstract shutterspeed portraits.
It is amazing how much colour and direction of light can impact the emotion of a pose.
These self portraits feel like something lifted from a fairytale, like a memory of magic. A dreamlike glimpse of the princess stories that enchanted me as a child, and still do. ✨
So far this year I’ve been deeply focused on creating new reference packs. Now we are into March and these are my first art portraits.
