You may wonder: why showing a Scandinavian landscape? Well...
Some have noticed that it has been a bit quieter around us as usual since the beginning of this year. For a reason. I moved to Sweden in January, being on a job hunt and learning the language at community school... and can finally start my new position as environmental consultant in September. This means: LIGHTLESS has become an international band, and is from now on primarily based in Stockholm. Martin and Marc remain in Dresden, where we continue to have regular rehearsals. Given that, however, we won't be able to perform live shows in the quantity as we used to do before. Yet we look very much forward getting on the road again soon. In the meantime we are preparing other stuff set for autumn this year.

Lightless - A Foreseen Loss / 6 of 30
I vividly remember three years ago combing through Bandcamp and coming upon Lightless. That moment truly felt like finding treasure of the most fascinating sort. I felt in my bones that Lightless was a name that I simply had to keep my eye on for their blend of black, doom, and sludge metal was something that the underground was desperately needing.
Not even three full years later, Lightless returned in Q2 of 2025 with "A Foreseen Loss", a behemoth of social decay and monolithic power that embodied the finest aspects of this corner of the underground in a way that not even the return of the revered Hell could overcome, in my opinion.
This is where this genre has reached an undeniable peak the likes of which we haven't seen in years and likely won't again for many more.
Every given facet of "A Foreseen Loss" is what we should associate with black-doom that truly goes for it in every possible form. From its riffs to suffocating atmospheres to impeccable songwriting, Lightless dug deep to bring this creation to life with real presence and menace. It would be an outright lie to insinuate anything less than overwhelming success for Lightless.
This is but the second offering from Lightless, yet they find themselves leagues beyond the competition. Whereas many would slowly take form and show us what they can do, Lightless propel themselves to the very forefront of the genre with all that "A Foreseen Loss" dares to summon.
With this effort, we witness the rise of a name that's sure to become synonymous with what black-doom can still be in competent hand. It would be a sin to let it pass you by.

And so it begins, my new adventure. Some selected persons know about my plans, yet I won't reveal anything public until everything is going to be settled.
Vänliga hälsningar från Värmland 🇸🇪
While many others announce their 'best of 2025' lists, which I fully support (given an enormous number of excellent releases this year alone), I still worship the gem I listen to from time to time to remind myself of the origin of my own music endeavors.

Nothing has climbed that doomed mountain again so far.
Tack så mycket, Johan. 🖤
