đŞ Studies on self-perception have found something quietly remarkable.
đ When researchers ask people to rate their own attractiveness, then ask strangers to rate them, the strangers almost always rate them higher.
It happens across age groups, across cultures, and across decades of research.
Why? Because the way you see yourself is filtered.
Mirrors flip your face. Selfies distort proportion.
Photographs catch frozen half-seconds, never your face in motion.
You see still images of yourself, often under fluorescent light, while youâre criticizing what you see.
Other people see you in motion. They see you laugh.
They see you listening. They see the version of you that exists when youâre not thinking about how you look.
If youâve ever caught yourself in a candid photo and thought thatâs not how I think I look, thatâs because it isnât. Thatâs how other people see you.
And the gap between those two pictures is almost always more generous than youâd guess.

đ Cigna has been running its Loneliness Index since 2018, surveying over 20,000 adults each year.
The pattern has been remarkably consistent. The loneliest generation is Gen Z, now ages 18 to 26, with roughly 71% reporting loneliness in recent surveys.
The least lonely? Adults over 72.
The generation with the most followers, the most platforms, and the most ways to stay in touch is also the one most likely to feel alone.
Researchers have been careful with one thing. Social media itself doesnât appear to be the cause.
People who use it a lot and people who donât use it at all score about the same on the loneliness scale.
The problem isnât the apps. The problem is when scrolling takes the place of real time with real people. A text isnât a coffee. A like isnât a phone call. The trouble starts when we treat them like they are.
So what do we do with this? Call the friend. Plan the dinner. Knock on the door instead of sending the message. And if thereâs a young person in your life who seems fine on the outside, ask twice. The first answer is rarely the real one.

Cardio gets most of the attention. Strength training has been quietly doing its own work.
A 2022 meta-analysis published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine pooled 16 long-term studies covering hundreds of thousands of adults.
đ The finding: 30 to 60 minutes of muscle-strengthening activity per week was associated with up to a 20 percent lower risk of all-cause mortality â independent of any cardio.
The group that did both strength and aerobic activity had the lowest mortality of all.
Whatâs striking is the dose. More than an hour a week didnât show a clearer benefit. The sweet spot is small.
The math after 40 is honest. We lose roughly 3 to 8 percent of our muscle mass every decade after 30, and the rate accelerates in our 60s.
That loss is the difference between a confident 75-year-old and a fragile one. Between recovering from a fall and not recovering from one.
30 to 60 minutes a week. Compound movements. Enough weight that the last few reps feel hard.
â˝ď¸ For decades, coaches at Proactive Coaching have asked college athletes the same question - what did your parents say after games that you most loved hearing?
Not âgood game.â Not âgreat goal.â Not the breakdown of what went right or wrong on the field.
The answer came back again and again, in nearly identical words, from athletes across every sport.
âI love to watch you play.â
Six words. No analysis. No correction. No âyou should haveâŚâ
Kids carry the pressure of evaluation all day - from coaches, from teammates, from themselves.
The post-game car ride is often when that pressure peaks, not lets up. What they need from a parent in that moment isnât another coach. Itâs the simplest sentence in the language: I saw you. I loved watching.
